South Korea’s president suggests 2030 World Cup bid with North Korea

South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in has suggested North Korea could be part of a bid to co-host the 2030 World Cup. In a meeting with Fifa president Gianni Infantino, President Moon said that several countries in north-east Asia – including isolated North Korea – could form a bloc to share hosting duties for the tournament.

According to the president’s spokesperson Park Su-hyun, Moon said: “If the neighbouring countries in north-east Asia, including North and South Korea, can host the World Cup together, it would help to create peace in North and South Korea as well as north-east Asia.”

The South Korean president has been open to more dialogue with North Korea since he was elected last month. North Korea has so far shown no sign of responding, however, instead conducting missile tests at an unprecedented pace in defiance of global sanctions imposed on it."

If Qatar can host the world cup then nothing surprises me.

Sport can help to foster dialogue and peace.

It's not as crazy a suggestion as it sounds, although there are some obvious problems with it.

And it's Kim Jong-un on his own, starting against the North Korea National Team here on a blustery Saturday afternoon for a pre-World Cup warm up...

90 Minutes later :

And the final score...

Kim Jong-un 68 - 0 North Korea

A dazzling display by the fat bloke with the 50's haircut there, with the whole National Team seemingly rooted to the spot as their glorious leader glided by. Poetry in motion.

Ignoring the North/South nonsense for a minute, South Korea had the WC just a few years ago. So no.

This. Building bridges and all that. Reckon it's a brilliant suggestion that can at least be talked through, even if it never comes to fruition. Who knows, maybe the two ends of the country might find far more common ground than they ever thought they had. Far more positive than the hateful corrupt decisions taken in awarding the next two World Cups.

2002 - 2030 = 28 year gap.

Mexico WCs in 1970 and 1986 = 16 year gap.

What football supporter in their right mind would want to go to North Korea, a place bereft of bars, drugs and hookers where you get locked up for smiling.

Wasn't the '86 WC arranged as a replacement for somewhere else?
Regardless, two wrongs don't make a right.

If they can give it to Russia and Qatar then anything is possible , I probably wouldn't want to live in the country responsible for knocking North Korea out of the competition as I doubt if it would still be there shortly after .

NOBODY will be knocking North Korea out of the 2030 competition. If it were to take place, the win shall be delivered. Three men cannot stop a nation.
