If anyone thinks that we will ever succeed in housing the entire nation by leaving decisions to local councillors at local level, responsive to local NIMBYs, they are in fantasy land.

Well, thats one point of view but not one that I would subscribe to.

So, you are saying that it is regional government but you have to really try to find out who is in it and what they do. How 21st century.

Here they are ... the members of SEERA, easily found thanks to Google.

How very 21st century indeed.

Well that's all very reassuring isn't it. I for one am delighted that, for example,

Mr Mark Chiverton SE Regions Trades Union Congress (SERTUC)

is making enlightened decisions about housing and infrastructure in my neck of the woods. Most of those are from quangos or are placemen. Our parish concil is more democratic, transparrent and accountable than that.

No they're not. Two thirds of them are councillors.

The people of the South East have consistently rejected the idea of a wholly elected regional assembly.

As I said earlier, this is a much more accountable body than SERPLAN ever was.

Can we go back to berating LDC now?

Good.

Here is a link to the thread about the case they are taking to the High Court

I wonder how much of this stands up now the National Park is going to be interminably delayed?

LDC did not think it up on their own. They are agents for somebody' elses agenda.

The bottom line is the developer speculators have bought up the town land and inner city plots and they need to build high density slum homes and cause congestion and make the city life a misery to get their money back.

This is aided and abetted by the CPRE who by resisting the building (and it has NOT increased in % overall) on suitable areas have inflated the costs and some landowners are coining it. Although it is not the CPRE's fault: it is Lord Rogers (high density slum building policies) and the Labour Government.

And where are these jobs SEEDA? You are building houses that only Londoners can afford and they are clogging up the roads driving to London and blaming the congestion on other people.
