108/8 two early wickets so SA are doomed now, I tell ya they are doomed

This is a remarkable result on a flat pitch away from home. In fact, you could hardly have scripted it any better - the 2 batsmen desperately in need of runs (Cook, Bell) duly bagged tons, our 2 forms bowlers continued their matchwinning form and take it into the next match while the supporting cast chipped in with handy 50s and the odd important wicket.

We're now seeing a man at ease with the captaincy and, crucially, a coach who seems to be quietly - in Duncan Fletcher-style - knitting together a pretty good team.

We've exposed South Africa's bowling attack for what it is - threadbare. What they'd give for a Fannie DV or White Lightening.

I'm delighted for Cook and Bell, not least because the team needs them playing confidently because of a lack of realistic alternatives without changing the balance of the team. That said, I think the jury is still out on Bell to an extent because the accusation levelled at him has always been that he doesn't dig out a big score when we're staring down the barrel of a shit score. However, it is great news that he did exactly what was asked of him by guiding England to a big lead here.

Excellent result. Best I have seen England play for ages.

The SA commentators are very worried although their saving grace is that SA have only lost 3 Tests at Cape Town since readmission and won 14 with 3 draws. Having said that, if England play like that again, I cannot see them getting beaten unless SA's bowlers improve 200%.

Thought Graeme Smith was generous in his praise for England after the game - makes a change!!

Great performance by England, one of the best I've seen in ages.
SA will drop Ntini and bring back de Wet, with Steyn having a couple more days rest I'm sure he'll be better after his recent injury, so I'm expecting them to come out all guns blazing on Sunday.

You can't write off the Boks, especially at home. This is shaping up to be a riveting series.

Great result, lets hope they lay off the loopy juice until after the last test, really need to dig in now and build on this, SA will be gunning for us as Cape Town, should be a big gathering of the Barmy Army at Newlands, to urge England & Wales on.
