Would he be making the same point if Si had played John Higgins and knocked him out instead?

Boo hoo.

Can’t agree with this.
Snooker should be boring, on the face of it, but it’s often engrossing to watch with the tension, tactics and different characters. Ronnie O’Sullivan matches especially.

What a scumbag!! Based on both his own Golfing history and the fact that it's not like Si snuck into the tournament with faked credentials - he was an invited amateur competitor.
He should be reprimanded by the governing body for bringing the sport into disrepute. Absolute sour grapes from what appears to be a very unprofessional, unsporting, professional sportsman!

You are better off making a point like this after a win rather than a defeat.

He's making a comment about the structure of professional snooker, something I, or I doubt many on this thread know much about which maybe valid and is backed up by fellow pros like Robertson, but making it after a defeat is going to sound like sour grapes. Why not say it all the times you have beaten an amateur and want to make a point.

Wiki says he's won over £4 million in prize money, and no doubt had a load more of endorsements and paid exhibition matches. So I don't think he can play the putting the bread table card! Then there's the entering the open golf championship. What a foolish man.

Tellingly many senior pro's agree with the magician. The Thunder from Down Under, Jester from Leicester and the Welsh Potting Machine have all come out in support of his statement.

Perhaps the complaint shouldn't so much be that amateurs are allowed to spoil the professionals' closed shop. Perhaps he should be complaining that there is a closed shop that denies obviously good players the chance to compete.

It’s a disgrace that these lesser players are allowed to mix with the big boys.

BTW, anyone know when the European Super League kicks off?

I don't really understand the argument.

Surely this amateur lad who wants to make it as a pro is also under a lot of pressure, as he needs to win these matches (and is earning nothing from snooker in the meantime). Unless he's actually a very wealthy man just having a laugh.

That was my thought as well - the amateur isn't just there for a laugh, presumably he's scrapping to try and get on the pro tour.
