[Albion] Sorry, not uptight about it, I LOVE a relegation battle

NO, but financially it could break TB, then what . . .

I'd like to know whether this is fact or fantasy. It seems to me this is the key deteminant of whether Tony sticks with Potter or brings in a fire fighter.

My guess (and it is just a guess) is that Tony can tolerate the money side of relegation standin' on 'is 'ed

Nonsense, we don’t need 9 wins.......4 wins and 15 draws is probably doable though.

Really? 3 defeats for the remainder of the season is not doable, probably by even Liverpool, let alone Albion. The fewest wins ever to stay up was Sunderland in 14/15 when they finished 16th with 7W and 17D, After 16 games they too had won only 2 but had drawn 10.

The simple fact is that Albion are not comfortably in the relegation zone by virtue of a uniquely crap bottom 3;

I don't like relegation battles.

I'd like one season .... just one ..... where we're not sh****ing it right up to the last few games. Just one season of fairly dull but efficient mid table respectability? Is that too much to ask? It feels like about a decade since we've had one

This. Probably the only one in last decade was 11/12 finishing 10th. I would absolutely love to watch Albion knowing that defeat today would be disappointing but have confidence that it didn't matter too much. Just for a season.. that's all.

This makes absolutely no sense. It cost what £25m a season for TB to prop us up in the championship, just buy some frigging players good enough to score in the PL now and again.

Was joking........I reckon we realistically need 5/6 wins. Difficult to see where we're going to get them TBH at the moment

I don't mind a relegation battle when the team looks up for the fight. Right now, we don't.

Glad Santa turned up at someone's house.

I jest of course. Relegation Battles are often more exciting than Title Race

Exciting in a "driving at 100mph blindfolded" sort of way

Good point, we were in the 2nd division late 70's when I first went tothe GOldstone, so we're one up . . . . Get relegated this year and its evens.

I suppose we're probably about evens in hovering around mid table top half, or scrapping for survival mid 90's.

I started a couple of years earlier than you so have seen one more promotion but as Kalimantan says, bizarrely, no one has seen more relegations than promotions what are people complaining about :D

It's impossible for anyone to have seen more relegations than promotions! But I've seen more relegation battles than promotion battles (I think!)

Promotions seen

3 to 2 early 70s
3 to to late 70s
2 to 1 late 70s
3 to 2 87
2 to 3 early 90s
3 to 4 late 90s
4 to 3 late 90s
3 to 2 2001
3 to 2 mid noughties
3 to 2 late noughties
2 to 1 a few years ago

Relegations

2 to 3 mid70s
1 to 2 84 (strictly not 'see' as I was living in Canada at the time)
2 to 3 85 (strictly not 'see' as I was living in Canada at the time)
2 to 3 early 90s
3 to 4 late 90s
2 to 3 early noughties
2 to 3 mid noughties

That's 11 definite promotions and 5 definite relegations, 7 if you count when I wasn't here (am I ever, though? ???)

That smells of success to me :rave::rave::rave:

I now hate the seemingly eternal 3.5 year relegation battle we have been in.

3.5 years battling in the bottom 5.

No sign of ever breaking upwards from this.

It is starting to destroy my enjoyment.

Only if you count moving down a division as a 'promotion'?? Looks like 9 promotions and 7 relegations to me - which would be right if you started off in the third division.

I find that nowadays I’m hoping for a draw in most games. Given our current weaknesses and style of play it’s difficult to see where the wins will come from

Bit sad to bounce my own thread but after the euphoria of the win v Liverpool I'm feeling a bit flat. I mean, I cannot see the bottom three changing now and is the season going to meander on to becoming, erm, a bit dull and meaningless? It's only Feb! I hate meaningless games (I don't do any preseason friendlies any more for that reason, just too non competitive). And I'm worried I might gamble too much now to give it more edge!!
