Exactly, the term legend is one of those words that is frequently used out of context and in the incorrect meaning. Very few of those players could even be close to being legends.

Not sure I agree with "very few"

Peter Ward
Steve Foster
Jimmy Case
Gordon Smith
John Bryne
John Crumplin
Ian Chapman
Robbie Reinelt
John Robinson
Gerry Ryan
Bobby Zamora
Micky Adams
Steve Gritt

are absolute ALBION legends ... No sane argument against

Matt Le Tissier
Paul Davis
Neville Southall

are footballing legends....

and these are certainly worthly of consideration as legends as well....

Richard Carpenter - won TWO championship medals with Albion, one of only a few Albion players in history to do so (not to mention his playoff medal)
Bob Booker - Assistant Manager for the two championshipsm and freddie Mercury impressionist extraordinaire
Darren Freeman - First goalscorer of the Millennium, Hat-trick on our return to Withdean
Simon Fox - Youngest ever player for the Albion
"Sneaky" George Parris - for that goal alone!
Adam Virgo - The talisman from the playoff year and for the goal that took us there
Ben Roberts - tied the record for the number of consecutive clean sheets - saved the penalty that took us into the playoff final, and kept a clean sheet at Cardiff
Simon Rodger - For infiltrating the enemy camp as an undercover agent for 10 long years, before his homecoming
Rod Thomas - the original "Fans" player - we bought him!

This leaves just the following - all of whom made great contributions to the Albion cause during their tenure at the club

Ian Baird
Paul Brooker
Mark Fox
Steve Melton
Peter Smith
Lee Steele
Jamie Moralee

How about some still local legends like Peter O'Sullivan, Tony Towner & Andy Rollings?

Albion hero Adam Virgo is almost certain to play at Kerry Mayo's Testimonial on Saturday.

Virgo, goalscoring star of the play-off campaign in 2004 and Championship survival a year later, has been given clearance to appear in the Legends match ahead of Albion's friendly with Reading.

All that stands in his way now is booking a flight back from Scotland.

Micky Adams has had to withdraw from his role as team manager in the Legends match due to commitments with Colchester - but organisers are on the trail of a big-name replacement
