Premiership clubs billions in debt, lower league clubs going into administration for fun... Inland Revenue routinely being used as banker of last resort... weak Football League rules... the hopeless Sir Brian Mawhinney...
And much worse, self-confessed asset strippers like John Batchelor (York City, Mansfield Town) openly admitting obscene profits made from buying clubs in ruin. The usual forecasts of dozens of clubs going into financial freefall and closing down.
Although it wasn't supposed to come up with any answers, the programme provided a horribly bleak window on football's perennial problem. I recommend any concerned or sympathetic Albion fan to listen again, from the BBC website. And feel strangely reassured as a result...

Why the hell is Mawhinney allowed ANYWHERE near football, seeing as he was around during the Thatcherite era which effectively made being a football fan a crime?
Also he was the election co-ordinator for the Tories in the 1997 election, and we all know how well he ran that one!

Mawhinny a football know nothing has the gall to object to Trevor Brooking`s frustration in the lack of money being provided to train British youngsters,he has obviously informed the FA of his feelings and on getting nowhere Trevor has gone public.
Mawhinney expects his staff to be Yes men and cannot understand the passion Trevor has for the game in this country,the answer is simple Mawhinny out and replaced by Sir Trevor Brooking.

Look here-we all know Dick Tight has done eff all for this club, he's holding us back, is soley to blame for the delays in getting the stadium built and kicks puppies. Well that's what the anti-DK dimwits on here would like us to believe anyway.

I thought the piece about the Sheffield Wednesday shareholder who is so desperate to get out of the club that he is prepared to sell to a front-man for a cosortium in Dominica with a fictitious "Bank" to back them..."I'd sell my shares to anyone, anyone at all, I'm so desperate to get out" and the speculation by most ofthe experts that in the Championship and Leagues 1&2 there could be 50 0r 60 clubs who are in serious financial distress. The view that, in the past, HMRC would grant a CVA to clubs provided that their tax was paid in full and which is now not the case will concern many.
The rule that Football creditors get paid first when clubs go into administration before taxpayers is obviously iffy, and if that stops aquisitive investors will be very thin on the ground. Perhaps if the sharks are discouraged then the game can find a better level to sit at with realistic wages payed to players and clubs owned by people who actually give a shit about the team (arise Sir Dick of Knight)
I was surprised that the Albion were not mentioned in the programme seeing as how all of the dodgyness around the sale of grounds to developers was covered and our case is probably the most high profile.
