if you really want to look to be offended, you could actually argue that took I the piss because she was both overweight, and ugly.

The actually reason behind my post was probably neither. But it's not worth going into.

I’m not offended tbh, just pissed off that a thread is started on someone achieving a world class performance but instead of an acknowledge of this we take the piss.
She is fat and ugly ..... but she achieved something that hasn’t been done in 30 years with **** all assistance from team GB.

Sadly it’s another case of passive bullying on social media. I wonder how many posters would be prepared to put a photo of themselves and their loved ones on here when poking fun at someone who has already achieved more than they ever will.

You think this woman reads NSC? Another case of being offended on behalf of someone else, I’m not a monster I would not send her the picture I posted directly but she’s not going to see this so how can it be regarded as bullying? Are you telling me you go throughout your whole life without ever laughing at anything inappropriate and being totally politically correct? Perhaps I just have a dark sense of humour

Just to state I respect her achievements as well, but I did think that picture was funny.

Mine was a general comment following DS’s post. It wasn’t aimed at anyone in particular. Just not in the mood for cheap shots

I hear this a lot these days when people defend offensive jokes.

It seems to be the modern version of ‘I’m not racist. I’ve got loads of black mates’.

Nobody is offended but you want to think they are for justifying your judgemental attitude.

It's not about her specifically but all the other people who struggle with feelings of inadequacy and self-hatred because they are or consider themselves to be fat or ugly. If you knew someone who dreads going out because they struggle with their weight and get men shouting insults (always from moving vehicles because they are cowards as well as aresholes) then you might not be so quick to mock.

You are not bullying Sophie McKinna specifically but you are making the men (and it is always men) who shout from vans feel that their actions are acceptable, that it's all just "banter" and anyone who objects is a PC snowflake.

Worthing
My wife and I were discussing this while watching the brief moments they showed of this competition. Some of the competitors are plainly just fat, others were relatively lithe and muscular. Does the extra weight (mass) actually assist with the momentum and propulsion.

This is a genuine question for anybody in the know.

In events where you push rather than ‘throw’ weight is an advantage. Hence why even in these days of total professionalism in rugby you will still see prop forwards with a bit of a belly.

Not aimed at anyone in particular so please don't take umbrage but ...
Why do folk these days feel they have the right to be offended on someone else's behalf when they actually have no idea of the person's true feelings.

Why do people think that pointing out someone's ability and achievement, is far more important than their looks and appearance, is being offended on their behalf?

I don't see any post taking umbrage, nor being offended, but I have read some shallow posts trying to be 'funny'.

I think you miss the point and have latched on to the latest fashion of being offended by people you think are being offended.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - Because I don’t like to get offended on other people’s behalf.
