Thanks for the comments. Two confessions:

1 I had no idea that Eric Cantona (1992-97) had that song assigned by Man U fans more than 20 years ago. Did any other player get awarded the Marseillaise?

2 I wasn't aware that Knockaert already had a song down here. What is it? (Nothing to do with running down the wing for me, hopefully)

But the Marseillaise wouldn't really work for Murphy?

I wish I hadn't read that with a mouthful of beer. Funniest one liner I've read all week :bigwave:

The Marseillaise. Surely one of the best crowd songs ever.

Let’s celebrate His Frenchness in style. (We’re practically French anyway)

Tune: La Marseillaise, Final Chorus

An-thony, An-thony!

An-thony, An-thony!

Knockaert, Knockaert, tears teams apart

And gets the victory!

For Kayal it surely must be;

Kayal, Kayal
he is king of the Seagulls

Just repeat over and over

The second line doesn't scan. 'Sea - ee - ee - gulls'? The bloke who sits behind me has enough trouble with 'Albion, Albion, Albion'. No, sorry, it would be a complete and utter shambols.

Song for knockhaert sung to the jungle book song I'm the king of the swingers.
He's The king of the wingers
A seagull VIP
He hits the spot
When we're on top
That's our Antony
Oh oh be do we want to be like you oh oh
We want to run like you
Score like you oh oo.

Dunk certainly needs one -

To the tune of 'My old man's a Dustman'

Lewis Dunk is magic he plays at the back,
Could've signed for Palace but Tony said **** that,
He tackles with his left foot, he tackles with his right,
And when we're Premier League we'll sing this song all night...

Third line could be improved but i think the rest works?

Getting back to the point, what's the existing song for Knockaert?

And, more importantly, is it any good - and which would work better?

We've got Kockhaert, Anthony Knockhaert
I just don't think you understand...

and then it all gets a bit confused over sums of money and players/countries names etc... and finishes rather imaginatively...

we've got Anthony Knockhaert

(rinse and repeat)

To the tune of Achy Breaky Heart.

We've got Knockaert
Anthony Knockeart
I just don't think you understand
He only cost a mil
He's better than Ozil
We've got Anthony Knockeart.

(don't tell anyone, but this song was sung for Dimitri Payet originally and we copied it......Some of our fans don't like that.)

He does, but that doesn't preclude people from singing anything else in the meantime. Feel free to come up with a Kayal one (and a Goldson one, and Rosenior, WJM, Dale Stephens, etc.

Surely the Day-o song has Stephens all over it, something like this (but better, obviously).

Dale! Dale!
Wear your shin pads or you'll wanna go home

Let's talk about a man called Gaston Ramirez
Wear your shin pads or you'll wanna go home

Sat on the pitch and cried like a baby
Wear your shin pads or you'll wanna go home

Six stitch, seven stitch, eight stitch, nine
Wear your shin pads or you'll wanna go home

Etc

(Yeah, I'm still bitter )

That. Is. Brilliant.

Would love this to take off. Love it.

(Just maybe a last line of "Leads US, to victory" )

Now it gets interesting. All available evidence suggests that for a player song to take off with a football crowd, it needs to be: –

1 A tune that’s really well-known, and easy to sing

2 Short, with simple words that are easy to learn

3 Not too fast, so that the words are heard clearly

4 Player’s name prominent, and clearly heard

5 Bonus ball – especially relevant to the player’s attributes, and nationality

Hence the popularity of “Who’s that man from Argentina?” And of course, “That’s Zamora!”
With all that in mind, the Knockaert Marseillaise ought to work. While “Achy Breaky Heart” might provide more of a barrier to widespread adoption.

However, as we all know, in order to succeed at the Amex, any new song needs to be blessed, anointed and adopted by the North Stand Song Tribunal.

So I’m sure we’ll be hearing no more of that pesky foreign Marseillaise down Falmer way any time soon!.

If you look at it from Knockaert’s perspective...

You’re French, you’re playing your football in another country. What is most likely to motivate and inspire you? Hearing a crowd mumbling something largely unintelligible to the tune of a relatively obscure, American country and western song?

Or hearing the crowd clearly singing your name, and raving about your skills– to the tune of your own country’s national anthem?

You decide!

I think many songs get started and develop at away games, where the Albion contingent is smaller and people can more easily hear what's being sung (in terms of new efforts).

Oxford away, with only 600 tickets, might be ideal. Not that I expect Knockaert to play. And expecting everyone to know the entire tune to the Marseillaise, as opposed to just that end bit, may be hoping for too much. I think if I was AK, and I heard loads of Albion fans singing my national anthem, I'd be deeply touched (and perhaps less likely to consider a lucrative move to the North East, let's say). Be great if we could pull it off, but it'll be tricky....

Re Kayal, Noël, Noël was once suggested: why not stick with that? It's easy.

Kayal, Kayal
Kayal, Kayal
Kayal's the king of Israel

Could not be simpler.
