SUNNY SEAFORD
If you want somewhere free, Tilgate Park in Crawley is good. Animals and walks and lakes and stuff.

The beach is often nicest when there's no sun.

Take a picnic to the Cuckmere Haven (near Seaford), and have a swim or a paddle. And at low tide explore the rock pools, where you'll find crabs and maybe the odd fish. Your 10-year-old might like looking for fossils in the side of the cliff.

The walk out to the estuary might be a bit long for the little 'uns but it's a beautiful place and kids of all ages seem to enjoy the setting. Look out for the old wartime gun emplacements and some interesting birdlife.

From the same car park you can also explore Friston Forest.

All of this, except the parking, is free.

.

Yeah and make the most of it before they abandon the costly sea defences and let the area revert back to its natural flooded state. Shame the coast guard cottages will be lost.

Out of those already mentioned I would say Drusillas and Fishers Farm are the best bets, although it's one or the other as both could be close to a full day out.

Both are not cheap, both the animals are a little lame, but the playing stuff, particularly at Fishers Farm is very good.

i'd agree with that.

if you're out in the country there's a medieval festival at herstmonceux all weekend that looks good

Prepare to spend an awful lot of money on food, the entrance fee and general tat. I went a couple of years ago with my kids and spent the best part of £100, from memory, which admittedly included an archery lesson for the children.

Well this will seal the deal.
Muller Fruit Corners are running 2-1 on there 6 pack, (which in turn are 1/2 price in Somerfield).
Just take the coupon with you, and save yourself £24.00.

Not quite as free, but good value with the money off.
