I wonder when that last happened in first class cricket?

I remember Alan Ward doing that about 40 odd years ago and Pat Pocock did something similar against Sussex but wasn't quite 4 in 4 IIRC, he got something like 6 in 9

EDIT: Just looked it up, he did get 4 in 4 and ended up with 7 in 11 balls. Amazingly, Sussex didn't lose
