I know. But I’d personally consider the fact it’s a funeral, people get upset, emotions are high, and make an allowance for this. I certainly wouldn’t take to social media to mock the person.

I’ve been doing my job for 34 years, and my age range of funerals conducted is still born to 107, Ive sadly encountered every conceivable mode of passing, my point was, and if people misconstrued what I said I apologise, after extremely challenging times in the last 18 months where frankly my staff have been superb, one ‘person’ saw fit to travel out of Town to the Crematorium attend a funeral service of someone’s loved one, and then still pulled a person up over what they said being politically incorrect, despite it being a time honoured and polite greeting.

But at 15 pages I’ve clearly offended some on here, so again apologies.

You were there, so only you on this thread has a real clue as to whether the person was being a dick about it or not, but you seem to be revealing a general disdain for people who might be offended, whether they express it or not. Up to you whether to give a shit or not about offending the occasional non binary person in attendance, it isn't a crime, just inconsiderate.

I'd just suggest doing a simple google on how many genders there are. Turns out the answer is 57. Or 64. Or 76. Or probably more. It's a pure confection of USA Gen Z, and one that everybody in the real world is practically guaranteed to get wrong and cause fake offence practically all of the time. Oh well

But what about if it isn't? And this applies generally, not just to this topic. What if things change to a new social convention becuase of a hectoring few making the majority compliant, rather than through a proper analysis of the topic and what is trying to be achieved?

I think that's right, but as I understand it, Funeral Directors will often recommend a celebrant.
