Some achingly beautiful modern classical piano pieces

Apt for a Sunday night (and my current mood). All by artists that cross the classical and pop divide.

First by Olafar Arnalds, an Icelander who has been around for a few years now. I was lucky enough to see him at the Barbican a year or two back. Great stuff.

Second is a Yann Tiersen composition. He's French, this is beautiful.

And one from Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. These two heroes of mine have done a fair few film scores of late and this is from the film, the Road. I'd rate it yp there with some of the best stuff Nick Cave has ever done.

David Bryan is well worth checking out.

His instrumental solo album 'Lunar Eclipse' is brilliant chillout music and utterly different from what he does in his 'day job'.

That is wonderful 1066FM. Never heard of them but will definitely look out for them now. I'm going to return the favour with a tune by Godspeed you Black Emperor. I'm a huge fan of post-rock and GYBH (and all their forms and spin off bands) are one of the best of the genre.

Here's one to end - a Japanese artist called Kakiage Nahoko that specialises in Opera/pop cross overs. A voice as good as Bjork or Emilie Simon. She can be a bit cheesy at times but hits just the right note with this. I've got an album of hers called Baroque that I'm especially fond of

You really should make a point of listening to Late Junction on Radio 3 you know. You'd absolutely love it ! If you can't stay up then it's available on the iplayer for a week after broadcast.
