How did he manage to kick it vertically upwards?

At least he took one. Mitomas bottled 2 shoot outs in 2 weeks now, which is a shame as he looks a confident attacking player who CAN score

How soon is now?
As much as I love Solly, as soon as I saw him walking towards the spot I knew he would miss. Why on Earth did we let him take one?*

* unless, perhaps, this whole charade, including the two FABULOUS (in context) post hits, was part of a plan by RdZ to help us focus on the league and European qualification. Perhaps...
* I'll take this as pretty much the only positive from yesterday

He missed from 3 yards why anyone thinks he's score a penalty is beyond me.

Poor management and a player who is f***ing useless in front of goal.

watched the game with my folks, and as bad as it sounds, we were actually laughing as he went up to take it. not at him, just that the inevitable certainty at what was to happen. there wasn't one nanosecond where anyone thought anything else would happen. almost looked like he knew it himself

First clip. Far side. Fans moving down to the front ready for victorious pitch invasion were left disappointed😩

The daft thing is that he scored some fantastic goals as he came through the ranks, including for England. As the rest of his game has improved immensely, it appears to be to the detriment to his shooting ability.
I don’t think he’s ever going to score again.

Letting him take a penalty... ok, someone needs to do it tbf.

But the fifth which is very often the one that could either get you through or knocked out... When a player has some self-confidence issues in front of goal, I just think it is a very poor decision to make him take a penalty with that amount of pressure. Only rational explanation I can think of is that RDZ might have thought "lets make the bloke a hero to boost his confidence"... which is not a bad thought in itself but it sort of backfired in that case.

I really want him to score a goal!!! He must score penalties in training otherwise they wouldn't have put him forward. I think he's our 20 goal a season striker but is lulling all the other teams into a false sense of security!

I thought that might be the reason for letting him take it, to try and get his confidence up.

A hero? It’s the league cup against a struggling league one side hardly the World Cup final. Most pl teams would hardly celebrate if they got the win.
