Just heard that Solly will be in the England squad to take on Germany and Denmark which will be announced later today.

Good to see him getting the recognition he deserves. Still feel he will be a future England international - hopefully alongside Dunk.

He was aged 22 at the start of the calendar year and will be 23 in July so surely he can't be picked as over the age limit.

Think the age is relevant at the start of the qualifying campaign - have no idea when this was but may help...

Otherwise - have no idea how he is included.

Players born on or after Jan 1st 1994 are currently eligible to play Under 21 games and in this summers European U21's championship.

It is always taken from their age on the 1st of January the year the qualifying tournament started, the current qualification process started in 2015.

He is eligible as International Competitions use dates of the calendar year for their youth age groups where as in England we use school years. For example a player born September 2000 is an Under 18 in England but an under 17 in Europe.

Thank you that clears things up. Seems a crazy rule though.

It would appear crazy on paper, but it allows some consistency over the 2 year tournament period, rather than having to plan for players to drop out it they turn 21 after 3 or 4 qualification games, or in the middle of the final tournament.

Exactly, stops you having players age out halfway through a competition, which is unfair on both the players and the team as a whole.

Well deserved. Not sure if i hope he plays some part or stays with less risk of injury though. That said a bit of training and another 30 minute run out could be what he needs coming back from that injury.

Brilliant confidence booster after a horrific injury , made up for him whether he gets on the pitch or not .
