[Albion] Solly March, local lad and Premier League star, is f***ing brilliant

They’ve sold out of “R’s” in the club shop for short printing - junior was puton the spot as couldn’t have March or Ferguson (I advised against Trossard before it was announced) today so went for Caicedo.

The Solly March factor? (Obviously not solely)

What is RDZ doing to get him to this level and with goals as well 🤔
Since we've been in the top division, Solly has always been a manager's dream in terms of work-rate, willingness to learn and to do any job for the team. I understand that the finish on Tuesday was the result of a bit of advice from today's captain. I have heard that Lallana and Gross are absolute football geeks who obsess about all aspects of the game. Great to have the kind of desire and professionalism all three show at the club.

I'm sure that RDZ has helped a great deal, but I think Solly has always been late to mature in terms of confidence. Maybe CH taught a lightweight incredibly quick young lad how to defend, win and protect a ball, GP taught him how to be positionally and tactically aware, and RDZ has convinced him he is a Top top Premier League player ?

Whatever it is I am incredibly pleased, and strangely proud (I don't know why I should be proud) that we have one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and he's one of our own :albion2:

He is incredible at the moment, but I feel like he's been improving all the time, rather than a sudden change (although I could be wrong)
People have been raving about how great Solly is for years.
Other people have been moaning about him for years.
That he's actually put away a couple of goals recently doesn't change the fact that the first group of people were right and the latter group were a bunch of mindless idiots who clearly know nothing about football.

He's been improving overall, which is why this thread is ridiculous, but RDZ has given him licence to attack and confidence. Potter was playing him as a wing back.

Football can appear simple at times, but it's really not and there are oceans of people who think they understand the game when they're completely clueless. I feel that I understand the game fairly well but I know there are plenty of people here who know it better, and then there are the professionals who know it better than all of us. Yet the idiot fans still believe they know the most.

To be fair, he played well in that position. And the alternative at the time was Burn, who I adore on many levels but was always happy to see not playing as a wing back.

I'm not sure what you mean, Potter didn't always play him at the back, sometimes he was part of a front 3, and I'm sure Potter would have encouraged him to shoot too. We saw him have plenty of poor shots and then he comes up with a worldy against Southampton, which would obviously give him confidence.

Solly was a good wing back, but is definitely playing better now he is further forward. I think he has more confidence knowing he has cover behind
I'm going to reply to this here, because I think we should spend more time on a thread going on about how Solly's f***ing great.
Anyway, literally anybody would be more confident with more cover behind, that's a problem with the system not the player (which in turn is a problem with not having a decent specialist option at LB/LWB at the time).

Playing as an attacking wing-back, often going forward, or sometimes in the role as a winger, was what he did for three years before 8 September 2022. On 9 September onwards he spent the last three years playing as a defensive full-back passing the ball to Lewis Dunk for 90 minutes per game.

I don't understand this post. I'm guessing there's some sarcasm but I genuinely don't understand. Can you please explain?

Perhaps but what has enabled him to hit this level ? Seemingly suddenly raising his game another level
Has RDZ unlocked Solly

Something about Solly being upset by the death of the queen I think. Can't remember anything else that happened on that day. ;)

Yes: the perception of what Solly has done during the GP years changed when GP was sacked.
He was a very attacking player either as LWB, RWB or RW all along, but now is the time to pretend that he was acting as some defensive minded shite player for all those years and only suddenly reached a high level. Which is of course bullshit. Solly has always been great.

Imho Solly has been a quality EPL player for 3 or 4 years, deserving of a starting place. A dream for the RB behind him in his latest role. I can think of a stack of games where he was magnificent.

I judge on total play, including work rate, tenacity in battles, making things happen for those around him, ball retention, driving us forward.

Whereas the tiny gang of Solly haters bitched about missed chances or crosses not headed in. Often posting on nsc just minutes into games, salivating that an incident met their trope.

The recent goals are just the icing on the Solly cake.

Yes I agree, the other thread should be locked and archived. In fairness, it was always a small minority of posters who have had it in for Solly. Most have supported him, and even when he was blazing over from 6 yards, the Amex would still sing out the Solly March song.
