hasn't becks got it written into his contract that he can "have a team" when he retires?
He has the option of buying into a team, I believe. Not sure whether that means an expansion team or one of the existing teams (there are two ownership groups that currently each own two teams)

Went to the new stadium last Saturday to see them beat Santos FC 3-1. Very impressive stadium - much better than watching them play at Giants Stadium where they always looked a little bit lost. The stadium is right next to the mainline PATH station which makes it only about 20 minutes from downtown Manhattan. They looked a lot better than a team that finished last in MLS last season. It's high time New York had a proper soccerball stadium - even if it is in New Jersey ! Best bit - it was only $25 for the Santos game and Chicago Fire.
I have two friends who bought season tix this year - neither could get to the Santos game but I spoke to one of them about the Chicago game and he is proper excited about it.

Toronto now my second team living just down the road... If you are ever in Toronto and can get a ticket the atmosphere is fantastic... Unfortunately owned by the same group that own the Toronto Maple Leafs (hockey) who have not won anything since 1966. Your right about the stadium I have never been to a game where we don't have over 15,000 most are sold out could easily have a 30,000 seat stadium. As a season ticket holder though we can only hope we are playoff bound this year.... :)

Swear there used to be a team in Florida, what happened to them. The league looks a bit lop sided, no team in the south east up to New York (or is that just me and really bad geography)

There was Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny but both were killed in 2001. I used to live 10 miles from FC Dallas and went to a few games but would not consider them my team or any mls team.

I've done Q&A articles on the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers (those two hate each other and it kicked off a bit on the messages section), Chicago Fire and DC United. To the Toronto lads above, I was going to cover your club but I couldn't find anyone who wanted to speak.

For those of you who just think that is just a shameless plug for those (mainly fan-based) articles....erm...you're right. Have a nice day!

I was in NY over weekend but game was sold out. Did think about turning up and getting a ticket from a tout but wasn't sure if they'd be any around. I went to the Nicks game Friday instead, god basketball's dull :US: and expensive. Got cheapish seat for $100 and a beer was $10

having enjoyed watching most of torontos home games between may and august in 2007, i will naturally be routing for them

looking forward to the further canadian revolution of the mls when vancouver come in next year and then impact the year after - having witnessed the impact at their former home against the minesotta thunder in a ground akin to withdean in which the BEER TENT blew onto the running track, ive got a bit of a soft spot for them as well

Seattle for me (obviously).

Straightforward 2-0 win against Philly last night. BOY it was wet (I have no idea why they built a stadium in Seattle with no real roof). 36000 sell out, great atmosphere, and no voice left today.

Soccerball could quite possibly reach tipping point in North America by the end of the decade.

Houston

The son of the bloke who cleans our windows is coaching in Houston and he reckons the standard of the U14 kids is UNBELIEVABLE. If they can translate the talent at that age to 10 years time then who knows.................

Soccerball in the US is doing it's best to lose the 'rubbish' tag

Fair enough it's not the most popular sport in the US at the moment, but why are so many teams building such small stadiums? Most also look like they can't be expanded. Understood playing in NFL grounds is pointless because they are so big, but shouldn't most teams be aiming for capacities of maybe 35-40,000, as opposed to 20,000? Seems a potential stumbling block in the future if they want it to go big... most teams sell out every week too.

Because the wife is from Detroit (which had a good team the first time soccerball arrived in the states) i support columbus just because it annoys the shit out of her Ohio state you see, its a state thing like towns here i guess.

they do? I only thought two teams actually had a decent following, toronto and seattle. I went to a game for FC Dallas that was sold out and it was barely half full. I'm not a fan of franchised sport and MLS is not really my thing. it's been around how long and how many teams actually make a profit?

Decided to buy a season ticket for the Red Bulls - $300 for 15 games so $20 (14 quid) a game which is pretty good value as the new stadium is the dog’s doodahs. I know that the MLS standard is not fantastic - I’d say it’s about League 1 with a few teams up to championship – but it’s a good option for anyone needing their fix of live footy. Spurs, Man City and Sporting Lisbon will be playing friendlies there in July.
