A cap on amount of foriegn players in each team giving home grown talent the chance to come through.
No salaries for playing for England, except win bonuses.
Make the squad train together more often + more friendlies.
Shorter season by having less cup competitions.

eliminate the premiership problem entirely, no English players will play in the premiership, simples.

If Capello, or even Dave the gaffer, had taken a squad of talented English players fron the Championship and leagues 1/2 we'd have had a better showing and quite probably be looking forward to the Argentina game.

Other:
Restructure youth football across the board - outlaw 11 vs 11 on full-size pitches until kids are about 15.
Restrict the amount of competitions the kids play.

I see Dave Whelan has trotted out his usual line about getting the Premier League to run the England team and not the FA.

Yes that's right, the Premier League. Which organises massive payments to teams so they can get in ever more expensive foreign players, and which actively rewards even it's most useless teams (Hello, Pompey!) with increasingly large payments. And which has just voted for the largest EVER parachute payments to the hopelessly relegated in order to ensure that clubs who actually live a frugal and efficient existence have little chance of competing against the bloated, ex Premier League failures still floating round the top and middle of the Championship.

Yes, that's EXACTLY who we need to run the England team.

reducing the number of Foreign players would probably be illegal or require UEFA support (i beleive there are new rules for this, ensuring 5 "home grown players" in each team).

I think you are right about employment laws, not just our own but also European, barring restricting work opportunities for EU Citizens.

With regards those from further afield, I think the Government plan to set a cap on immigration might have some effect. I am guessing that anyone from outside the EU would need to be on a list of required professions to gain entry to the UK...doctors, nurses, dentists, engineers, yes please...sportsmen, that is to say footballers, no thanks!

For me the problem is the lack of technical ability of English players. The FA need to look at other more successful nations and see how they develop their young players and then copy them.

Everyone always seems to admire the Brazilians, but there seems to be a preconception that they are just plucked off the Copa Cobana Beach. They aren't born better players and it doesn't happen by chance. Children play a version of the game with a smaller heavier ball to develop their skills.

In Holland their acadamies get to spend far longer with their youth players than here. Far longer. They receive a full education alongside their training.

In Germany I believe the local councils are legally obliged to provide a certain level of sporting facilities here that I might be right in saying is not the case here.

Spain are by far the most successful European team at youth level. Why not look into how they do things. What do they do that is so different to here?
