So would you think someone from one of the big six? Someone who has had success at the highest levels of the game? Someone whose contract expires at the end of this season? Someone who is in his thirties? Someone who can still play when fit, but probably won't be offered a new contract because of his injury record?

A quick look at squad info on Transfermarkt narrows this down to just one player who meets all criteria and perhaps would specifically mentor the batch of young S. Americans in the way that Lallana, Milner and Wellbeck have done for the squad in general? https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago/profil/spieler/60444

He's had a nightmare of a season with injuries, but played 28 times last year and 39 games the year before. He's only 31.

Re: Henderson, it very well might have been according to Naylor:

Brighton are looking towards the next old head they can add to the group. Jordan Henderson would have fitted the bill in the January transfer window without the toxicity surrounding the 33-year-old midfielder’s switch to the Saudi Pro League last summer to Al Ettifaq. Henderson ended up instead at Ajax in January after abandoning his controversial move to the Middle East.

Reading that, I assume it won't be an option now which personally I'm glad about.

It would go against our diverse background of the city and club.

IMHO we should look to bring in someone from South America to keep us up with all the wonderkids. Someone who has respect for us after the way we treated Ali Mac when he returned from Qatar. Maybe been plying their trade in the US recently.

If we’re limiting it to British and contract expiring then there’s not many options.

Dele Alli? Josh Brownhill? John Lundstram?
(No idea about their contract situations, but) Ashley Young, Jonny Evans, Craig Dawson, Danny Ings, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Seamus Coleman, Ben Davies....

If not British, then maybe Tiago, Hojberg, Jorginho, Firmino?

He's coming back to Palace with his tail between his legs in the summer, isn't he? Not happy in Istanbul, they're not bothered about him either, he won't interest any top clubs at his age but earns too much for the likes of Brentford. With his underwhelming recent form and dropping from the Ivory Coast squad for his crap attitude, it'll be Palace or nothing for him as he once again fails to prove he can succeed anywhere outside SE25.

Or, at the least, an experienced player who's a Spanish speaker. Perhaps someone Spanish? Like Thiago off of Liverpool.

If they tell us who it is it won’t be a secret. He’ll play in a Zorro style mask.
