The XX are supporting, meant to be really good. I've never heard of them (so out of touch these days) but reports are promising.

The XX have indeed been getting fine notices. QUOTE]

I hope for those going that their music is more inventive and imaginative than their name.

A few thoughts..

a) Why the f*** are gigs so quiet these days?
b) The Concorde, as a venue, pisses me off nowadays.
c) Brighton crowds are inconsiderate FUCKS. Who pays 16 schnuffs to go to a gig and talk LOUDLY all the way through?
d) The XX bored me.

I reckon it's got worse though. Considering there was such a rush for tickets for this one you'd think the crowd would be interested in watching the band. I'm sure this is worse in Brighton than anywhere else.

And yes, I had a decent time, just fed up of gigs at that venue I suppose. The Rakes was the same, even stodd right at the front you could hear people chatting away.

I completely agree with you. It seems to me that hald of the people who go to gigs nowadays only go so they can say that they went.. they all look/act like they work for the bloody NME.

Just got back from playing 3 gigs in France and I must say that even the French people are more fun to play to...throughout Europe people just seem far less standoffish... Over here there seems to be a real pretentious air at gigs with lots of people at the back with an arms folded approach.

Vampire Weekend seem to be incredibly more confident than when I last saw them. Really enjoyed both bands, the new VW stuff sounds great.

As for Chappers comments, the venue is ace. The best in Brighton IMHO....but yes some crowds do leave a lot to be desired.

You'll be glad to know that when Herr Hippodrome finally opens it's doors ANYONE talking or holding up a mobile phone to record gigs will be removed from the venue and dumped in the sea.

(the last bit is my fantasy)

I have to say I think Brighton audiences have always been shit, and London ones are no better. Northern crowds always seem to be more appreciative.

I can't agree with that anymore. I wish they would put more bands on downstairs at Audio. Better sound, lower ceilings, better lighting (what was with those really bright lights flashing last night?) and band right next to the crowd.

Agree that VW look more confident, the singer is well charming. The keys player makes me laugh, he's a proper geek!
