It was certainly implied that Vicente was available earlier in the week. He was even kept back form the reserves at Crawley. I was suprised not to see him involved yesterday.

That said perhaps Coventry scrapping for points already wasn't the game to send a player returning from a fairly long lay off into. If he is at full fitness then I expect to see him on Tuesday or at least against Forest. You don't keep a Rolls Royce in the garage for too long.

Buckley after saying he was still growing and that had affected the structure of his muscle tone (or similar) and implying he hoped to start at Southampton is mystery. Perhaps he has gained another inch or so. Gus is reluctant to discuss individuals and injuries nowadays.

The suprise for me was Hoskins on the bench, he was supposed to be well behind the other two in terms of fitness.

God knows, thought we would see them both today but perhaps gus thought he could get by and give these guys extra time to recover before derby and notts forest. we won so i guess he could well have been right, had that been his plan. We will find out tuesday, where i expect both players to be involved including hoskins. although im starting to think that hoskins is actually behind barnes in gus's plans, oddly. Once again vincelot has proved a far better left back than painter in terms of ability, movement and pace going forward. when will he become a permanent left back for us?

That just isnt true. Unless constantly passing to the opposition constitutes "better".

did you go to the liverpool game? perhaps not. i agree vincelot did mispalce a pass or two today but his overall contribution was a million miles better than marcos painter gives us. he's much more mobile, gets beyond noone at times giving us more options. he's quicker by miles, whats not to like?

Not saying i dont like anything. Left back is certainly not Vincelots best position and he isnt a better player than Painter in that position. Think he is best as a midfielder, which is where he played all last season, and has had his best games for us.

you could be right in respect that his best position is in midfield but he is still a better option at LB than marcos. Let me ask you this, what does painter give that vincelot doesnt have?

I think the key thing is Gus said he was going to keep the faith with the team last week. Part of our problems have been caused by having an unsettled first team, so he's trying to get some consistency. Not a bad thing and good to have quality on the bench, if needed.

Agree it is frustrating that Vicente & Buckley aren't featuring but their last returns from injury and subsequent breakdowns suggests it was all too premature. So reluctantly it makes sense to make sure they are fit this time. Hope they then get a decent run of games so we finally get to see our strongest team.

Looking forward to seeing Hoskins and Reyes too.

Judging Painter over the SEVENTY or so games hes played for us in that position compared to Vincelots TWO I would say a much better ability to pick out a player in blue and white stripes for a pass.

answers of slight niggle, or bringing back slowly now not to be accepted.

Acceptable to whom?

Gus chose a team that he thought would win the game. They did.

He's given Vicente & Buckley another few days to prepare for a far more difficult away game on Tuesday, and they didn't pick up any knocks yesterday.

Coventry was the easiest of 3 games in a week. Why should he have played them? To win 4 points instead of 3?

According to Gus Vicente needs to get "match fit"...............to do that he needs to play in matches? No reserve games, so can only get "match fit" playing in Matches for the front team on a Saturday, better to have him for 45 mns than not at all?

And Buckley, completly bamboozaled by this one. Watched him on Tuesday against Crawley and was the only shinning light in a dismall display, looked sharp and eager and made lots of telling runs................3 days later, not in the squad.

I trust Gus and his team, we got the result yesterday albeit not a great performace, but I fully expect to see both on Tuesday or I will start to worry something is not right behind the scenes.

The 5 subs rule is seriously restricting us this season as with 7 buckley would have made bench yesterday
