Helps recruit players when the chairman isnt sure, tend to be someone the chairman trusts.

In Brightons case they didnt want to pay of Hinshelwood

I think it's very similar to directing traffic, but with a number of wayward footballs that have come out of a bag. He sort-of keeps 'an eye on them' if you will. Or something.

Acts as that vital link we all needed between a board and a manager, because they are so unable to talk to each other. Think of Director Of Football as acting like MSN, a medium of communication. Great waste in other words.

Hinsh has been vital to the youth set up. It was only him and Vic! A lot less work load now Steve Brown is here.

Shame people see fit to have a dig at someone who has served the club well over a long period. He was basically forced into the job first time around and like anyone would probably fancy a crack at being a manager. He wasn't a success but didn't run and hide.

I would assume that as a director of football, he is responsible for all levels other than the first team. Co-ordinating training for the different levels/age groups, signing of youth and junior players etc. As far as we know, he has no involvement in recruitment of first team players and has not had anything to do with their coaching so why are so many taking the piss? Beggars belief.

i reckon on average hinsh works a 70 hour plus week , he is always at the training ground during the day , he is at durrington on a mon eve for around 4 hrs , thurs eve at falmer 4 hrs ( all youth set up training etc) youth team or 1st team on a sat (home or away) younger teams (u 16 downwards ) on a sunday , reserves through the week (home or away) , he talks to all the youngsters parents , if they need advice , help , diat sheets, .
he gets to tell boys at 16 that they are offered a scholarship AND has to tell the unfortunate ones (after training with the club for several years) they WONT be offered a scholarship,
he organises , refs , linesmen,
and oh yes can you imagine the paperwork, health and safety involved .
so yep he does f*** all really!
and i forgot to say he also has a look at opposing teams prior to a match, helps coaching the youth team and is at falmer all week
