Well this would have how I would have handled the presentation...

Blatter: "Here to show us vy englander may host 2 0 1 8 vorld cup is my friends David, Boris, Eddie, David and Prince Villiam on bass guitar..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycuT9iFPAvo

Blatter: not vote REQUIRED Englander vins!

...and a nation rejoices.

alas... it wasn't to be.

But perhaps next time...

Not being England would have helped.

We have to face it, our country is not very popular, think about it, 5 people yesterday verbally committed to give us their vote, and 4 of them lied, this country has made its bed, and now has to lie in it. Don't believe that I like writing that, I really don't, but I think it may be the case. From a politcal point of view as a nation we need to get our own house in order before we butt in on other countries busines, and we need to show more humility on the international stage. Again, I don't like writing that, but that is how I think many many other countries see us.

The most curious thing..
Being someone else - preferably third world, obscenly rich, no football tradition or heritage, and willing to pay ENORMOUS bribes

They certainly wouldn't want a World Cup in a country with stadiums pre-built, that would sell out for every game because the fan base for football in this country is so strong.

And there would have been plenty of volunteers to dismantle the MK Stadium and transport it to a Third World country.

We have oil revenue from the North Sea and South Atlantic but we didn't utilise it in the same manner as the Russians and Qataris.

We won the Olympics so that theory doesn't quite work. Qatar won the bid for 2022 with Mike Lee involved. He was also involved with our 2012 Olympics bid but the England World cup bid ignored him. A gross error it would seem.
