Not that i'm concerned in the slightest, the squad Gus has assembled proudly sits top of the Championship table, but what happened to the 1 or 2 Gus spoke of? No doubt there were moves made by the club, does anyone know anything? Is Vicente still going ahead?

i would like to think/hope that Gus is awaiting the Premiership squad announcments to see who will be available for a season long loan. we saw last year some quality players miss the cut.

Worth noting that, a couple of years ago, Arsenal signed Andrei Arshavin on deadline day but didn't announce it until nearly 24 hours later.

I'm not saying that is what's happened, but it's not entirely beyond the realms of possibility that we do have a transfer signed and sealed but are waiting to finish up the last bits of the Vicente deal (which of course is not time-specific as he's a free agent) before announcing the two together.

Most likely scenario, in my view

Vincelot, Bergkamp, Buckley, Harley, Mackail-Smith, Hoskins, Lua Lua and potentially Vicente?

Didn't sign any on Deadline Day as Sky told us to but the above should be enough to get by. Personally, I'm pleased that we've got to the stage that we have 90% of our business done by 31/08 and weren't spraying transfer bids across Europe and signing players to "get bodies in".

I agree - no need to panic. Maybe one of Gus's intended deals fell through on this occasion - but look at the bigger picture:

We did good business in the summer so the majority of our squad could play together pre-season and then hit the ground running. As a result we had a great start to the Championship plus we have already dumped a Premiership side out of the Carling Cup.

We then picked up Ryan Harley who has already made an impact. We have Buckley and Hoskins to return from injury - they will almost feel like new signings. I still think we haven't seen our strongest team and bench yet. When they get a run of games to gel it should be brilliant. Someone is going to get an absolute pasting when our lot really click.

Meanwhile look at the other Clubs who were fancied runners but had an average start and are now panic buying to catch up. Makes our business look shrewd, but not exactly rocket science.

The core of our squad is excellent. I think it is sensible business to stick with loan signings from here on. We have already spent a shed load of cash by our standards and now have a bigger wage bill to service. Ok there is substantial income from The Amex to help offset this but feel it is sensible not to overspend.

I am as gobsmacked as anyone by the Vicente deal (assuming it is confirmed). I still can't quite see why we need him and fear it is a heart ruling the head scenario but hope he will have a positive impact on and off the pitch. Someone of his pedigree stepping out at The Amex is mind boggling. What a statement of intent.

Finally even though we have a good squad I still think a big target man will arrive on loan. Gives the option / incentive of a permanent deal if he does the business. I am not a fan of Paynter but who knows - Gus may rejuvenate him?

Confussed of Hampshire. So the transfer deadline has passed no signings confirmed and yet we are still hopeful of signing new players. How does that work, makes a mockery of the transfer deadline.

Anyway, I for one don't think we need a forward or wide player got enough of them who are all scoring.

As I understand it, other than signing players out of contract, we can NOT make ANY new signings after yesterday's deadline. So so loans etc. (I think?)

Could this be NSC's understatement of the new season? I am over the moon with all of them except Bergkamp, and that is only because I don't recall ever seeing him play. Not having a pop JBizz, just typing my thoughts.
