So we can't afford Murray, but can buy CMS for 3 Million?

Yes up until the game at the Amex in Sept.

Times do change and I am sure you will agree that he has been a rock for us this season. Come Saturday he could well be the most prolific goal-scorer in this league. He just needed to bed-in and get some confidence at this level. With luck Glen may be taking the crown for player of the season off our dear Zaha and Bolasie....

Crying shame that GM isn't still with us. A class act in every way - a far post header, the likes of which we last saw from a Brighton player.....er when? Never once celebrated overtly his 3 goals against us in 2 1/2 games. Didn't take the 2nd penalty when he could so easily have done for a hat-trick against his old club (can't believe that Holloway would have deprived him of such a hat-trick).

A huge loss, a poor decision by someone to let him go - whatever the reasoning. Top scorer with over 30 goals in the promotion season, plus a bagful of defensive headers.

I wish Glenn all the best, our first player for many a while that will go onto better things and we didn't value him accordingly.

As for booing GM, me I applaud him - well done Glenn and all the best.

Gus should give credit where credit is due and bemoan the fact that someone didn't go the extra mile to keep him at the Albion. Whoever that someone was.

Totally agree with all of that.

I think this whole thing was part of a huge learning curve for both Tony Bloom and Gus at this level of football. Palace were offering more than double what we were and that must have come as a shock to everyone involved. Our wage structure is very sensible (and rightly so) But the reality is, if you want a quality striker in this league, you have to pay BIG BUCKS or, be extremely fortunate in the transfer market.

It's such a sad situation for me. Because we didn't want him to leave, he didn't want to, but almost had no choice. Doing the same job, living in the same place, but earning more than double what you're currently on for your family is certainly something I couldn't turn down.

22 goals, not over 30 ;)

Nobody moaned last season when Murray only scored 7 goals in 46. There is a wage cap at our club so wild guesses at CMS wages are nonsense too.

Me thinks this is correct Murray wanted to break that wage cap and the club were not prepaired to do that .

Surely it may not be public knowledge that there is a wage cap but TB and Gus would have a mental note of the maximum they are prepared to generally pay any player, obviously if a special player became available and they wanted him they would have to rethink Do you think that GM came into their reckoning as a special player?

Absolutely spot on. Probably (no, definitely) the biggest mistake the club have made recently.

But were you not saying that Murray was 'Pants' and 'good-riddance' etc this time last season?

I remember many people saying just that. The reason all the Murray talk is starting is because he is doing well at Palace. Why? Because they play to his strengths and employ a system that suits him. This is something we must start doing with CMS or the transfer fee and wages will become an ever-increasing waste of money.

Does anyone actually think Murray would have scored as many for us this season as he has for palace? Running around up front on his own with Barnes as his supply.

No, palace play direct quick attacking football. That's why they/ murray scores goals. I am not saying our system is bad but we need to improve quality of the players in key positions for our system to work effectively.

Not rely on picking our favourite players then playing them out of position.

Also our system is reliant on the players knowing each other well and having confidence in each other.

It's not there yet especially in mid field. Until that happens it doesn't matter who we have up front they are always going to struggle.

That's what I think anyways.

There may be no wage cap but there would be a wage structure

We will never ever play to CMS's strength because we don't and will not play hoof football for him to run onto so he will always struggle to score goals which begs the question why did we sign him in the 1st place ??

Actually, i think Murray would have at least as many. You make it sound like CMS hasnt had any chances at all!! Hes missed plenty of gilt edge chances. Im not saying hes the only one mind but hes had hatfulls of scoring opportunities that a quality striker would have scored with ease. I dont buy into the argument that we dont create chances.

I think the marketing dept, if there worth employing, could have projected ST sales to be pretty high in all honesty. The feedback they would have had in the season leading up to Falmer would have indicated high ST sales.

Palace chairman on radio saying that palace have structure in place. Only 2 players paid over 10k and no one over 11k, one of which is australian international, didn't mention the other...

Apparently most players who joined in the last 2 years have taken a wage cut to join....not saying Murray did but hopefully should put to bed all this 15-20k bollox! The sooner people realise Murray and poyet didn't get on the better..
