Shame this guy wasn’t allowed to use his prerogative.

I mean...in principle he has every right...certainly.
In principle he should have been left alone to express his views as he sees fit.

Just as, in principle, I have every right to turn up at Twickenham for an England International sporting a Republican 'citizen not subject' t-shirt and proceed to boo the national anthem.

I wouldn't do it though. And if I did, I would have accepted my fate in advance!

The national anthem includes (present tense, despite what some lackey in the Palace who edits its' content may believe) an explicit reference to crushing rebellious Scots. The fact that that it was expunged very recently out of embarrassment doesn't alter the fact that it was used as a method of rubbing the Scots' faces in it for the vast majority of its existence.
Well if that verse, which to my knowledge I've never heard sung and hasn't been other to be annoying since the 1740s, is included at the Amex, then I can certainly understand why some people might be irritated.
Fortunately, a) I don't care about other people's feelings, b) they won't sing that verse and c) none of this has anything to do with my post that you replied to.

Absolutely … and thank goodness 👍

Of course … I didn’t suggest they shouldn’t. Sadly, even a smaller number of angry people booing will be louder than those trying to sing the National Anthem.
Obviously the booing will sound louder.

Do you remember that occasion where Potter got it spectacularly wrong?

I'm not a republican, but this chart does seem to suggest that we could nationalise the crown estate and save millions of pounds a year.
How many farmers would be turned out of their rented homes, so politicians could cash in?

I remember Bill Bailey’s take on the national anthem…

”Why would we invoke a non-specific deity to bail out these unelected spongers? Why would we DO that”?

Works for me. I won’t boo though. Head down in my phone and wait for the real action I guess.

I can respect that. If you dont wish to sing dont. Just dont spoil the occasion for others.

Some are staunchly royalist, some staunchly anti, I suspect most as in most things sit somewhere in between.

Imho there are better ways of making your constitutional views heard than before a football match, but I don't really care whether people belt it or boo, as long as:
1. You're aware that whichever side you take you don't speak for all Albion fans
2. It doesn't become so much of a thing it distracts the players, and
3. Whatever you do, you give 10x as much to the team after kick-off.

Send them victorious - God Save The Team!

I will be going through my repertoire of Bournemouth songs in the hope of tricking Hoops.

I'm not suggesting we flog the land to the highest bidder. My point was that the monarch and royal family contribute nothing to the running of the estate to justify taking a percentage of the profits.
I think you will find if you look it up, you are wrong. Rare breeds, and help for farmers to achieve organic farming etc. Try actually reading some facts about the Crown Estates rather than giving an opinion, on a message board.

I'm with @sheebo ... It looks like we are in the minority on here ... or is it just that boo boys shout the loudest on here and many with a different point of view just feel there's no point expressing it.

I'll be singing the National Anthem anyway!
There’s a competition always on here for who can be the furthest left or the furthest controversial or the furthest hipster - it’s best just ignored. People love digging down and giving themselves an Internet identity and personality which they don’t actually follow in real life. Let alone care enough about the words to our anthem because of the royal family - they just want to be online controversial. Nowhere in the country has had mass boos for our anthem apart from Liverpool - it will be sang loud and clear I’m sure.

Fully support your right to sing the national anthem and I’d fully agree that singing the national anthem before an England game doesn’t make you a royalist so this isn’t meant as a dig BUT

Surely the ‘royal fan’ but is pretty heavily implied when we’re being asked to sing it before Brighton v Everton entirely because of the kings coronation? I think that’s why most of us think it’s a bit silly, imo.
Yeh totally understand that and the silly bit and I respect peoples opinions - but I hear our anthem I’ll sing it. It’s in my DNA as an Englishman. I am not a royalist in the slightest but sang along at home on Saturday at the coronation 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️ - but I think to boo would be a disgraceful and uncalled for act - yet the first post on this thread about it has huge support. I predict internet personas at their finest who won’t boo. I think it’s moronic to suggest it. If you don’t like it don’t sing it - don’t boo it just to be controversial or hipster. My opinion - I haven’t bothered to quote anyones posts that aren’t quoting mine as cba with the usual shite on here!
