From my perspective, it does seem like a fairly weak excuse. Given you've provided the address (or certainly fairly close to), they should be able to identify which delivery office covers that area. Unless, and I don't have a close working knowledge of the delivery offices of Sussex, Lewes is covered by two different ones, with a border running through it somewhere!

In either case, I would certainly reply to the email thread again reiterating that you think more could be done to trace whoever this was. I can in theory appreciate too that potentially without a number plate and a very good description of the person that it could be quite difficult to identify them (loads of temps are taken on). However, I don't think they've yet exhausted all reasonable routes to try as yet.
Just received the following email from Royal Mail escalation process:

"Thank you for your patience regarding the problem you and your wife experienced that involved careless driving and inappropriate behaviour on 22/11/2024.

I have now completed my enquiries with the Customer Operations Manager of the Lewes delivery office.

Firstly they, like myself wish to extend their personal apologies to you and your wife for the actions of the employee on the day.

They have identified the person as an agency driver and immediate action is being taken. Although Royal Mail’s confidentiality policy means I will not be made aware of the outcome of this investigation, I can assure you that Royal Mail has zero tolerance for these actions and this kind of behaviour and it will be treated with the utmost seriousness.

Please be assured all allegations of this nature are treated seriously and the appropriate action has been taken.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that if you are unhappy with my response in any way, you can ask to have your case reviewed by the Postal Review Panel. They can be contacted by writing to FREEPOST Postal Review Panel or by email to postalreview@royalmail.com.

Once again, please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of Royal Mail for the problem you've had, and our thanks for taking the time to make us aware of this".


I think that's an excellent response and I'm happy to leave it there. Many thanks to @Brian Fantana and others who nudged me to pursue it further 🙏

And further to my message above ... today, after having a coffee in Shoreham ... I left the coffee shop to head off on a walk. I was crossing the road (having checked no traffic coming) and as I was just over half way across the road, I was suddenly aware of a red car heading right for me from my left. She'd come out of a side road (St Mary's Road - turning right into Tarmount Lane for those that know Shoreham) without slowing down. In a split second I managed to arch myself backwards and was fortunate to just be hit in the stomach area by the wing mirror.

The car stopped and the woman wound her window down to put her wing mirror back. I went to the window and asked if she'd realised she'd hit me ... all she could say was oh sorry, I couldn't see because of the sun. I then noticed she wasn't wearing her seatbelt and mentioned it. She didn't respond to that but said she needed to move around the corner - I assumed to get out of the way to other traffic. But she just drove off. Not once did she ask if I was OK or offer her details. Unbelievable.

Fortunately, I do feel OK ... just very shook up thinking what could have been ... and also what might have happened had it been a kid or someone pushing a pushchair and not able to react as quickly as I did.

I have reported it via 101 online. I just hope this isn't one of those things that happens in threes.

Maybe you should only go out when nobody else is around ……. you seem mighty unlucky 🫢

If the neighbour won’t give you his name, give the police the neighbours name.

That's great news. I'm glad you got such a positive response. They really do take things like that very seriously so I'd imagine the person involved is no longer working for RM via the agency.
