Strange that literally no one has heard anything. There has been no rumours from anyone reliabe. Which suggests to me it is a foreigner that none of us have heard of or a premiership youngster.

This. From the phrasing used you would have to think that Gus has someone in particular in mind rather than "We need another striker", but absolutely no one outside of the club seems to have a clue who it may be. Naylor in his Q&A I thought referenced a striker at a prem club who isn't starting (obviously) so Bednar is favourite for me.

Someone else earlier mentioned Gus saying he's turned players down. Would love to know who they are, Seb Carole ;-)

Rumours that he hasn't quite cut it in training, and possibly that he was a Stephenson signing not a Gus signing. I have no knowledge so no idea if this is true, but just passing on what has been said on here. Maybe he just needs some time to develop/settle in.

I know for a fact that he has been shit in training and isnt up to it and have been told so straight from the horses mouth. That being a Brighton player and not Fran Sandaza :)

He was on the bench for the Gillingham game but I was disappointed he didn't get a nod to come on, even just for the last 10. I was surprised to see Barker included for S'land not Bergkamp or Agdestein. Hopefully he comes good and gets a chance

Leeds fans hate Billy Painter with a passion. He hasn't done much up there. Having said that, I think they are looking for him to do things that he simply cant do. He will not score 20 goals (they should have bought Charlie Austin if that was the aim), but he does hold the ball up well.

So if it were, say holding onto a lead, then bringing on Billy Painter for the last 10 mins or so would be what he is good at.

He hasn't had much of a chance has he though.

More likely Southampton me thinks!

Correct, according to the Torygraph today...

£2m Baldouck is out of this world

West Ham United made what they considered to be a knockout £2 million offer for the young MK Dons striker Sam Baldock this week only to be left stunned after being informed they have been out-bid by another club for the 22 year-old. Baldock is highly-promising and was watched by West Ham manager Sam Allardyce as he scored a hat-trick against Chesterfield last weekend.

But more than £2million? Little wonder English clubs trawl the world for talent.

Still it’s interesting that West Ham have not been gazumped by a Premier League club but one that is vying with them for promotion from the Championship — namely Southampton. But then they did manage to get £12  million from Arsenal — much to the astonishment of United who dropped out of the bidding when they knew what Arsène Wenger would pay — for another young Englishman, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Toby has been banging them in for fun in the DS since he got here- would love to see him get a few cameos in the near future.

his next move should be loans to a top league 2 then a good league 1 club - The same as Arsenal do.

Crawley for a few months?

I thought Gus said he didnt like to loan young players because the team they go to do not play football like we do. At least the development squad plays passing game and thats what he gets used to

Gus doesn't like loans. Didn't he say something about waiting until January if it doesn't come off in time? Or was it getting a loan until January?

Suppose, but then that's what we had to result to in order to get a 'target man' last season in Chris Wood.
Perhaps a loan to buy is a chance for Gus to check Bednar's fitness is all that, before splashing out big wages and possibly a fairly large fee? A loan with a view to a permanent transfer would perhaps be something Gus would be a bit more tempted by.
