i will take comfort in not having to spend eternity with such a prick

Hope you don't mind me saying but you really should spend some time contemplating why you have such strong feelings against someone you are sure doesn't exist.

That sounds very irrational to me.

Exactly. Eternal life comes from our goodness going back to the soil to help recreate life. Takes in eternal life and reincarnation. Never bought this 'nothing happens to athiests when they die' cobblers.
Oh like when the Sun dies, your body going back in the soil is important? I think you value your life too importantly in the grand scheme of things.

thats a silly argument, two different scopes entirely.......it like saying we only drew against Bolton therefore we can NEVER EVER win the champions league

Okay, so 5 billion years rather than eternity.

Oh I see, you would prefer me to write "In my opinion" at the start of every sentence. In my view everything that we hear and read is an opinion so I am not sure what the issue is.

Yes i would prefer you write that, but only if you have an open mind...

If your mind is closed, and you won't look at the evidence of churches and religious types contradicting your point of view of them, carry on.

As a christian, my enemy is dogmatic view, and you have been displaying that in your posts. I do agree with you in large parts, just don't lump us all into the same basket eh?

The thing I find hypocritical about being atheist is the understanding of how religion creates divide but yet an atheist is happy to call it's self something which creates divide.

I have recently begun to realise that my atheism is more about the traditional descriptions of God. I am agnostic about the creation of the universe.

atheists dont create divide in theists, their division already exists because they cant agree on the basics and are self divisive.

take the crucifixion.......christians cant even agree if it happened, the bible gives separate information of jesus being hung in one and crucified in another........some christians havnt ever heard of him being hung from a tree, even though its in the bible.........how bonkers is that?

I suppose this means that nobody should take a position on anything as this would cause a divide. I think you have missed an important aspect of your point. It is the divide created while believing in the same God that people find interesting about religion. How can people who essentially believe in the same thing be so divided, especially if that thing has omnipotent control over them and their beliefs.

Which brings us back to the question: if there is a god then what on earth is he playing at?

when i was just a young boy(cough) i used to play with my fort and my airfix Brit and German soldiers, there was quite often much death and destruction(mostly on the German side).......i was only playing though.

perhaps there is a God and tsunamis, earthquakes and all the other random killing are just a big game and God is only playing all be it with a much bigger fort and no conscience.
