"Nothing is straightforward at this club and who knows whether we had targets but they are gone or we had targets but they're not talking to us?"
Isn't that the same with most clubs?

Darren Balkham is the best example, he said if the hype is true, expect something spectacular early next week, could be tomorrow, give it time, also I don't think they'll say anything if it ruins a deal in progress. Negotiations take time even if a player has agreed to join etc.

according to Naylor on Twitter this evening, Gus is saying that we are not as close to our next two signings as we were to Kuszczak and Bruno so it looks like all the speculation was wrong and we are on the back foot again.

Nothing is straightforward at this club and who knows whether we had targets but they are gone or we had targets but they're not talking to us?

Looks like it won't be this week though and if it isn't soon then will we be off to Portugal and setting ourselves up for the season with the players we've got.?

So what of this "spectacular" signing? If Naylor is right and Gus isn't just bullshitting to cover his tracks, what happened and where is that signing now?

All of which reinforces my desire for Gus to keep his mouth shut about transfer market activity. When a signing is confirmed announce it. Until then, shut up.

Kuszczak, Bridge, Bruno and Vicente.

I'd describe them all as gems. If the transfer window closed today I'd be REALLY happy with our business.

I think I know where you are coming from, and agree that they are all good signings. However, I neither think it is the end, or would be happy if it were. There is open talk of promotion to the Premiership being the target, and we still need a "box to box" strong midfielder and a good quality larger striker to achieve this.

I'm afraid not, as Gus says, we still need a midfielder and striker... the signings we have made are very high quality, but we still need to strengthen in the positions that are hardest to strengthen in...

I'm happy, but not REALLY happy yet.

I think we need a strong 1st 18 to cover suspensions, injuries and to have decent sub options.

For this I think we need 2 more strikers, and 2 more central midfielders.

This.
Was about to type the same.
I'll be an hour from Gib that week. Up in the montains though towards Ronda. Hoping Malaga is one of them.

Beautiful place. My parents have a villa up in Montejaque, little white village about 20 minutes away.

Never trust a plastic Man United fan more like. It's about time a real football fan (and a female Brighton fan at that) was bestowed with the honour of BHA police football liaison officer, not some glory-hunting armchair plastic who thought Ji Sung Park was a place on The Level. Balkham out Mount Etna in!

I wouldn't get too uptight yet, as Gus said with Wayne Bridge, everything happened in 2 days, so we could have 3 more signings by the end of the week even though nothing is oblivious now.

if it is Rhodes, then I suspect we are in something like a house buying chain.
Huddersfield won't let there star striker go without a guaranteed replacement.

I have a feeling, huddersfield are waiting on Ross McCormack from Leeds and Leeds are holding onto him until they can buy Luke Varney and David Norris of Pompey. (in press, leeds targets)

Leeds get their targets they allow McCormack to go, Huddersfied get McCormack they allow Rhodes to go etc

David Norris looks likely to join Sheffield Wednesday

........................ and surely McCormack was signing for crippled palace a fortnight ago? ???

Thought I was the only one thinking along those lines.

Do think it's highly unlikely though.

I would piss myself laughing if McCormack goes to Huddersfield and not the caravan dwellers who are convinced he has already signed for them

It sounds like Leeds are playing silly b*ggers over this - having agreed a deal with Palace they're holding out for more money.
