So Gus asked to leave the club in March!

The opposite, I'd have said. Gus called TB on March 13 ("four days before the Palace league game") and told him he wanted to leave, the next day if possible.

The following week he was offered the Reading job but turned it down. Was that the action of a man who was desperate to leave?

And was it grounds for suspension? If so, why wait until the end of the season.

To me it answers nothing.

because it wasn't reading gus had his eye on

Gus's comments after the Palace game now make sense. I think he thought he was leaving. Perhaps that Reading offer was not what he was expecting or he thought he was lined up for something else? Anyway, TB let it be known in order to show Gus wanted to leave and he had to "manage" that situation until the end of the season when it all exploded in spectacular fashion.

Anyway, onwards and upwards....

4 days before the league palace at home game.......makes his comments after that game much clearer.

toxic gus.....wanting to leave before our biggest game of the season!

thanks TB for letting us know - collect your chips, you've totally outwitted poyet each step, then the pocket aces come out with the new mananger by your side.

classy :)
Nicely put.

It was, I checked...

"Was that around the time Reading showed an interest?"

Bloom said it was 4 days before the Palace game which was 17th March. The Reading enquiry was the week after when Poyet was due to fly out to Barbados.

Gus probably got tapped uo by reading - then said to TB he wanted to leave.....TB had already found out - wouldn't let him leave, then Gus had to say publically he turned them down (contractual stuff spoke for him probably) - then a strained relationship for the last games.

end of season, TB got him on this and a few other things, and fired him on contractual stuff.

this 90% has to be what happened.

Did TB say Gus asked to leave at the end of the season but preferably the next day. Or words to that effect?

He said gus asked to leave at the end of the season, but he (gus) would be ok if it was the next day.

How has this made anything clearer? Is asking to leave gross misconduct? Is the manager asking to leave reason to suspend Tanno and Charlie? From that moment on we were undefeated until the play off second leg and moved from 7th to 4th, so it's not like he stopped trying, or at least trying to stop being effective. It made nothing clearer.

It wasn't Reading.

It wasn't a secret Gus wanted to join Reading, was it? They didn't meet our demands so we didn't let him leave. The club handled it well and gave Gus enough scope to almost get us promoted, and to tighten the noose around his own neck.

Nope had nothing to do with Reading, but the club was expecting him to go there when they made an offer.

If tony bloom thought that would help i am sure he would have let him leave there and then...sensibly with a game coming up against our biggest rivals and all the upheaval it would have caused he didnt follow your advice...although one can perhaps understand your frustration at finding out this one confirmed fact
