Right... if you look at the latest frame on this rainfall radar, there is a region of grey to the south.... this is sleet...

Therefore I am deducing that the rise in temps is because the low pressure is tracking along the coast, dragging in warmer / moister air off the sea.

This could have 1 of 2 effects (probably both).

1. Turn some of the snow to rain.
2. Intensify the snow, as the moist air creates heavier precipitation.
