Nestling in green nowhere
Sorry..was the question about going out and catching a wild snake or just going to scales and fangs and buying one?

I would not advice ferreting around in bushes for adders as they are trouble.

Grass snakes can grow to a good size so might put up a struggle.

Both species are present in seven sisters country park...but do it at night or you'll be arrested.

My one eyed trouser snake is the hardest critter ever. Even the honey badger.

I was surprised how long it took for the old "one-eyed trouser snake" to make an appearance on this thread. The error of course is that the OP already has one of these in captivity (albeit of earthworm dimensions as stated by Edna who presumably has seen the pet in question) so why would he want two?

I would like to see the animal develop as my own and raise it

Why do people get the need to OWN living things? Would you like someone to own you?

Worthing
I caught a grass snake when I was a kid, and it secreted the most evil smelling gunk on me, that I have ever smelt, so unless you want to spend the rest of your life smelling like a dead tramps smelliest vest, I would give it a swerve

Go wild in the country, where Snakes in the grass, are absolutely free.

And they should remain that way, IMO .

Snakes make pretty good pets. Don't have to feed them often for starters.

I recommend a reticulated python, though only because I have fond memories of getting to look after a lovely 9 footer for a couple of months when a family friend was away. I was only about 10 at the time andI'm sure it outweighed me. Best of all you could put it round your neck before answering the door to cold callers... please be a Jehovah, please be a Jehovah.
