Is there a reason why we can't do it at home? No one seemed to mind, it all ran smoothly.

i go with a smoker and it only occurred to me last saturday why we had to get out of the ground as quickly as possible when the final whistle blows, whereas i would like to stay a while. non-smokers are so much more chilled - which is ironic as smoking is supposed to chill you out. the need to smoke over-rides all other requirements. it's only a couple of hours - really shouldn't be an issue

My dad was a smoker for nearly 40 yrs but now has given up for 2. The doctor told him that smoking raises your blood pressure, then the smoking of each cigarette temporarily lowers that pressure giving the smoker the illusion they are being calmed.

Saw a bloke having a fag in the North Stand on Saturday in plain view of the stewards, just outside the entrance to C block. He was being discreet about it, but it was hardly a covert operation.

I'm not a smoker but nor am I anti smoking. Personally I don't really see what the issue is with people smoking in the ground given they are outside.

However isn't it a football league rule that all stadia has to be non smoking now? How did Derby get round this?

I smoke and it really doesn't bother me either way.

At Cardif you where allowed outside the ground at half time for a quickie (smoke) and that worked well.

It comes down to design of the stadium. The smoking is prohibited in 'enclosed spaces' and there are somewhat complex definitions of what makes an 'enclosed space' (something to do with % of roof/walls without open spaces etc). Because designs of football stadia vary, there is not set law for whether it is permitted in football grounds or not, it is up to each ground to decide.

I don't know if brighton have worked is out and know the stadium would count as 'enclosed space' or if they have just decided it is not worth arguing the toss, and simply introduced a no smoking policy to avoid complications, but it would appear Derby feel they can legally allow smoking.

I have never really understood why people smoke in the first place? It costs money, it is bad for you and it is addictive.

For me, it is one of lifes mysteries like religion and bruce forsyth.

It's no mystery. In fact, it's much like being an Albion supporter.

Because it's antisocial, it stinks and is a proven health hazard to those that cannot avoid breathing in the expelled carcinogens.
With you with this one...Why should we have to put up with second hand smoke.... a by product of smoking....a smoker would soon complain if I pissed up his leg....a by product of beer drinking!!
