About 15 years ago I joined an online betting group. At the time there was a free £40 bet if you joined. So I did and put the £40 on a 40-1 outsider just because I liked the name of it. To my amazement it won £1600 for £0 stake superb!!

Went to Vegas a few years back and (not being a gambler) didn't partake much at all!

However on the last day I thought I ought to join in a bit and stuck about $1.25 into a video poker machine in the foyet of The Luxor. Nothing on the first four goes then on the fifth go I nailed a flush - 3, J, Q, K, A of clubs. Was a win of about $60.

However my gambling buddy, after much gnashing of teeth, persuaded my to hold the J, Q, K and Ace and go for the 10. It only bloody came in!!! A ROYAL FLUSH!

The machine starting making all sorts of noise and then about 30 seconds later a girl wearing not much at all handed me ten $100 dollar bills on a silver plate and said "Courtesy of The Luxor sir".

Sounds like bollocks but I promise it's true. Paid for my American holiday.

Only downside was discovering that the odds for a Royal Flush are millions to one rather than the 4000/1 I got!

A bucket load of years ago my last 50p was invested on a potential candidate for Greyhound Rescue. I cannot read form, and never wish to, but tart that I am I liked the name of said hound Mossy More.

Now it get loaded in the trap at 100/1, but wins at 150/1. I may be corrected, but £68 or so quid is my memory for my 25p e/w bet, as I did not have enough money to pay the tax, which was 8p in the pound I think.

Anyway the shop cheered loudly, and the manager paid the money over and barred for the day, advising me to do something sensible with my ill gotten gains. I did, as it paid for a new pair of Martens, take away for the folks, and a weekends worth of beer for me.

Oh happy days.

I was talking to someone on Friday night and they said they knew someone who had just backed Celtic to win against Barcelona, getting the scoreline correct as a part of a 4 team accumulator (result and correct score)
- They had put £11 on it, got them all correct and won £181k (if you believe it really happened that is) I don't know what the other results were supposed to be

Best result i had was a 90/1 accumulator come in (10 teams) - shame i only had £1 on it

Pretty sure that story was in the Sun the day after the game.

I also had about £8 spread on a draw/Albion; 1-0 Brighton; McShane to score first and won £297. I was trying to do an accumulator online with those (or whatever it is called), but couldn't work out how to do it and ran out of time. Rarely bet on football, so definitely UP.

I do remember Peterhead depriving me of about £2K as they succumbed to the mighty Elgin City.

Good story & less downside than you think! the odds might be millions to one on a single hand/spin but you had a vital second go (when it was then down to 50/1) so a much 'fairer' payout
