After the incredible decision to release Doug Loft, do we still consider him to be a hero?! Letting Sullivan and Hinshelwood go are dodgy decisions aswell in my opinion. :( I thought he was the perfect man!

Slade is a hero still, but I will miss Doug's fantastic hair.

Of course, and will always be so whatever happens next season.

Pleased to see he has the guts to make some tough decisions, and look forward to a raft of quality signings. Note that word QUALITY :albion2:

It's not an incredible decision.

It's a manager's informed choice about whether to offer a new contract to a player who has only ever been on the fringes of the first team under several different managers.

Of course. Slade's had the balls to make the objective hard calls that Micky Adams never would have made. Maybe he's finally put an end to the Old Pals Act. Can only be in the Albion's best interests.

My love for Russell Slade has taken a slight hit today, if I'm honest. He did a brilliant job in keeping us up, only he would have done it. I love him for what he's done. But I do worry how many players he thinks he can sign this summer, losing Hinshelwood, Sullivan and Loft amazes me in my opinion, absolutely amazes me. Hinshelwood is SO much better than El-Abd, it infuriates me in a way. It's a real shame, and for the first time I'm starting to doubt his long term suitability.

Should be exciting to see who he brings in. Based on the players he's bought in so far his track record speaks for itself.

Dicker would be a great addition. The forward line is all set, and a few additions to the defence, and midfield and we'll be in great shape next year.

Still need keeper cover though

Slade is still a legend

Good thread and a valid question. I think the answer is .... we'll have to wait and see. He's certainly burnt his boats by releasing Fraser, Loft, Hinshkewood and Sullivan, but if the replacements are miles better then, yes, he's still a hero. However if, like last season, we get another set of players who look good on paper but turn out to be another load of journeymen pro's looking for a payday then he'll have undone all the good work he did in keeping us up - and he (or his replacement) won't have Fraser and Loft to fall back on.

He's got a lot of work to do over the summer now to replace all these players, Hinshelwood is TWICE the player Hawkins and El-Abd are, yet those two both stay! It's a great injustice, but the frustration of them getting long contracts. Really disappointed. All a game of opinions.

Bollocks is this question valid.
Loft did well as a squad player, but that's it, would've much rather kept hold of Tommy Fraser who showed some real passion and promise, but apparently he's surplus to requirements, so he's been released.
Hinshelwood is always injured as we all know and we obviously have a top-class keeper in mind for next season.

IN RUSSELL WE TRUST!

Gotta be said, I agree with that.

This squad just avoided relegation. Slade had to make changes, lets hope what he gets in is better than what he let go.

I love NSC. For about 5 years posters have been DEMANDING a cull. We now have one and people seem to be upset

Just because it's neccessary, doesn't mean people aren't going to be upset about it! My favourite players have been released today, and my last remaining favourite is rumoured to have been placed on the transfer list! :(
