Brighton & Hove Albion have been linked with a move for former marksman Wayne Gray.
The 25-year-old pacey striker is out of contract with Southend United and has attracted interest from six or seven clubs.
Oldham Athletic boss Ronnie Moore was the first to publicly declare his interest in the player, and now Mark McGhee has been identified as an admirer.
Gray spent a month on loan with The Seagulls in 2002 and could well make a return to The Withdean, as they look to bounce back from League One.
McGhee needs to add a proven goalscorer to the books, after Albion managed just 39 goals in 46 games to finish at the foot of The Championship last season.
Meanwhile, released Albion front man Chris McPhee still hopes to complete a permanent move to Swindon Town, where he finished the season on loan.
Iffy Onuora's sacking has put the deal in jeopardy though, and it is not yet known when new Town managers Dennis Wise and Gustavo Poyet will decide on the player's future.
