For £12 million, I'd want a striker with more than just a good goalscoring record in the 2nd tier of English football.

And the moon on a stick.

You can spend half that and take a chance on a Carlos Kickáball, hoping they adapt to England and the rigours of this league. Or you go cheaper and get a third division goalscorer and hope they can make the stepup in class. Or you just luck out and discover a goalscoring machine for peanuts.

£12m would be a massive gamble but he pretty much guarantees you 20 goals, even if you're a bang average team. Whether he could score regularly in the PL is neither here nor there, we'd be in a position to address that if we got there.

Rhodes is the type of player who we need to sign to get us in to the PL but not for a transfer fee that is being insinuated. We can understand why our club looks to sign foreign players. Anyone who thinks he is over rated is plain stupid. As others have mentioned, it does seem strange that it's only championship clubs that seem to be interested. One would have thought that the likes of Norwich, Newcastle or WBA would all be sniffing about.

If he gets whoever signs him the goals to get to the Premier League then the 12 million plus wages will be peanuts. If he doesn't cut it at the top level the next wave of Championship teams determined to get to the Premier League will sign him up next January. Signing him is a bit of a no brainer if your team needs a goalscorer. I wonder which of the top 6 clubs are most lacking in that department?

A 20 goal a season striker is something we will no doubt continue to dream about.

Is it a gamble? Yes of course it is but then so is every big money player.

He's fat and slow but scores goals.

I'd be annoyed if we spent 12M on him, Zamora is better. We do need to upgrade Hemed though.

His price is determined by what the market will pay for him. As a comparison point afobe is 12m.... Therefore he ain't overpriced at 12 million.

You want proven quality you pay for it other clubs realise that. You can't force bloom to part with the cash but it's a shame we can't go the extra yard.
