My initial concern with the appointment was not with Gus himself but with his assistant who appears to have very little coaching experience. But having given it more thought Gus is a top coach who holds his uefa b licence so i would expect him to be heavily involved with coaching aswell as the management side of things and this can only be a good thing.

It's certainly a "flair" appointment - he turned down Real Madrid for a first crack at management in the UK, which turns out to be the Albion!

He'll either be brilliant, in which case he'll be poached, or he'll be shit in which case he'll be sacked - either way I expect his time here to be brief but eventful.

On one side are those seeing this as really positive and a big appointment leading to exciting things and on the other are those who wonder why we've gone for someone with no managerial experience. I tend to agree with Pavilionaire. He'll either be shit and get sacked or he'll be brilliant and get poached. Either way I don't expect him to see out his contract. Although OBVIOUSLY I'd love him to be brilliant, fall in love with us and turn downs Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham, whoever in order to win the Champion's League with us.

However I'm not sure about this #2 who has apparently drifted out of the pro game and is currently involved in amateur football in Sardinia! That makes Dean White's Hasting background look quite high-level.

I know, I know, let's give 'em a chance before slagging 'em off. I'm only saying, like. That's all.
