If you are a gamer seriously steer clear. If all you want is interent access and email then fine.
I have returned mine within 4 days of getting it, and here is what I thought
* Speed is fine - not flying, but then my exchange is not great.
* Modem provided is easy, just plug it in and away you go
right thats the positives
* Modem is not configurable, you sign in with the MAC address of the router which means if it breaks you are screwed until Sky replace it and re-register you. (They have disabled all the work arounds to get your password etc as it does not exist anymore!)
* You cannot set port forwarding up (tried all sorts of configurations and then Sky tech support (joke) told me they had disabled it), so gamers, any remote applications that connect in cannot work.
* Tech support was poor to say the least.
I would look at Eclipse, Zen etc at least you are in charge of what equipment you use and how you want to use your broadband connection.
Marc,
See Bardos comment about the old routers. Well having had the new ones, they have locked them down a lot further. Bardo, you will NOT be able to use your own router as it connects using the MAC address of the router, not username and password (the MAC address is hardwired in).
I have configured office networks routers/modems etc in my line of work and can honestly say that the software provided on the router is poor, limited configuration and heavily locked down (max 54g connection speed). It is designed for people who have no router or who really only want to surf the net from the next room.
I wouldn't know about port forwrding for the games, but I set up a dynaDNS name and had a simple web server working off my pc for personal use. This is pretty basic and would not work.
seriously i would support Palarse before i would switch back to sky

Ta for that as I hadn't picked it up from the Skyuser site. As long as the V2 ones work better than the V1's (which, judging from the responses I've seen, they do) then I'll be happy to ditch my router and run with the new.
Marc, the Sky User site http://www.skyuser.co.uk/ has some articles on port forwarding - I'm sure you'll find what you need there as it's the best port of call for anything to do with Sky broadband. It's worth registering and asking specific questions as I'm sure there's plenty of gamers who do use Sky BB.
