They had a style of their own, much like U2 etc. and we're very good at it.
I like quite a lot of what they did, but not so much of Mark's solo stuff, though he did and does write good stuff for other artists.
Brothers in Arms album is a classic and Private Investigations still makes the back of my neck tingle.
If Ringo got one, then why not Knopfler.

I think Dire Straits invoked the same reaction as Coldplay do these days. Excellent band imo and I, for one, like both of them . Brilliant live. Love the live album Alchemy and this haunting track that makes the hairs on the back of my neck tingle when it gets into full flow

Funny enough I agree fully. I thought they peaked with the Love Over Gold album and although Brothers in Arms sold millions I just didn't like it and I can't recall the last time I listened to it.

This^^^ Early Dire Straits up to B in A were superb. Then they turned into a commercial arena band
