I wonder if he gives a flying one, given that he's sitting on a (several) suitcase full of taxpayers money.

He should have never received it in the first place. Even being in Financial Services myself I fail to see what he contributed.

He caused a lot of people to have sleepless nights. Now he'll have lots of Knightless sleeps.

Not if he has wisely invested his cash in a Silentknight bed .....

I cannot believe that Fred Goodwin has been stripped of his knighthood, purely because the government wants to divert public opinion away from its inability to control the city. Even more incredible is the assertion that he brought the honours system into disrepute! Don't successive governments do that every time they give them to their mates?!!!

Leaving aside why anyone wants to be a Knight of the British Empire, the clue is in the question. If it is an "honour" then it should be awarded for success. He took a sound business and then had to ask the taxpayers to pay cash so to stop it going under. As a capitalist, they should have let it go bust and merely guarantee deposit holders money. Its typical of England tho for there to be people making excuse for failures. Frankly tho, does he give a sht? He has made more money than I ever will, as such, who is the failure?

I wouldn't have a problem with outstanding leaders of industry and commerce getting awards for exceptional acheivements above and beyond what might be considered normal that are to significant benefit of the country or maybe for charitable works. However why should the country honour someone who did so much financial damage and caused huge social consequences while creaming off huge personal bonuses and allegedly destroying evidence of dodgy dealings. Why should he enjoy the kudos of a Knighthood? About time a line is drawn in the sand for Bankers.

However it does smack of double standards when types like Lord Archer with criminal records still have their titles. Plus that fat incompetent git Prescott who blew huge amounts of public money on failed local government projects, now enjoying life in the Lords.
