I know it's been discussed before, but how about a Falmer For All Single.

These days 10,000 sales almost guarantees you a top 20 position, over 10,000 and you're in the top 10.

News quote:
"In the week ending 25 January, only the top 10 singles sold more than 10,000 copies. And in the whole of the UK, just 400,000 singles were snapped up. "

If FBS (or the Seagulls Singers) could get something together, a version of GOSBTS, Tom Hark, whatever, get it released, make sure all the local HMV, Virgin, WHSmiths etc stock it (by pre-ordering it) and we'll have a lot of publicity.

With FBS it might even sell a lot more for the curiosity buyers, who can then send in their emails.

Can it be done, can anyone do it?

thats not a bad idea... i'm not sure what the rules are re: chart eligibility with the no. of tracks on so we'd have to use a few.

i'm sure there's some industry people on here...???

the way single are counted isnt like that. There are selected stores around the country that count their sales, and the total national sales are calculated from that sample. Reckon the reason for this is so someone, like say posh, cant just go and buy '000s of their own single.

You either have to have 3 or 4 tracks on a single to get into the chart, but you can just put an extended mix and an instumental on it.

That Zamora single that Tony Kybett released was truly awful so we would need to make sure we do not embarass oursleves to that extent.

Do people buy singles anymore? I'm sure it would work its way onto Kazaa in a few days and therefore lower sales.

Isn't fatboy Slim releaseing Sussex by the Sea anyway?!:jester:

Me too, just as well I discovered Kazaa and I can now put 15 tracks on a CD. I really was running out of space for more music!!

WH Smith have just announced that they are no longer selling CD singles. Is this the beginning of the end of the charts as we know them?

All my mates said that and got pretty much the cheapest record decks around. Now they are all moaning that they spend a fortune on vinyl. The new vinyl that comes out isn't cheap; whereas I can pick up CD singles for a few quid or download them for free.

I much prefer CD decks anyway, particularly for the sort of music I play. You can even get CD decks that have scratch effects-although they are very expensive.

Has anybody seen this weeks single charts?

A very interesting new entry at number 36.

Yeovil True by Yeovil Town FC !!

Now if Yeovil can do it surely we have a chance of making the Top 10!!

Going back to the point about downloading tracks; I read somewhere that artists make more money from ringtone downloads than single sales.

I suppose BHAFC doesn't own the rights to GOSBTS. If it did they would make a fortune out of it. :(

Just emailed Silver Scope Music

Hi guys

A question for you, if your CD, All Things Brighton & Beautiful sold in large enough numbers would it make the charts?

Seriously, if we could get 10,000 sales from the right type of shop would that get it in the singles chart?

Sorry if this sounds a bit sad but we want all the publicity we can get.

What about releasing a single? Can you do that. We could defiantly get 7-10K sales from the Brighton faithful.

Please let me know if you have any info for us.

Worth A try I guess
