Rodger set to end injury nightmare

Simon Rodger aims to end 10 months of injury agony by returning to pre-season training with Brighton this week in time for the new campaign.

Rodger was plagued by toe and back injuries last term and his last game was against Middlesbrough in September of last year.

But the Seagulls midfielder is on course to rejoin his team-mates as they prepare for life in the Coca-Cola Championship.

Boss Mark McGhee told the official club website: "Simon has just got back from a 10-day break. He has entered into his rehabilitation with gusto. We are now looking to try and get him a game or two in pre-season."

Midfielder Dave Lee is expected to join Rodger in pre-season training this week after ankle surgery.

I remember seeing Rodger beeing stretchered off at Middlesbrough. It was awful at the time, he was tackled by Southgate (although it wasn't a bad tackle)
It looked as though he had broken his leg at first.

It shows how much difficulty Blackwell is having getting back to fitness that Rodger did his cruciate ligament a full two months later but is nearly back to full training.

I hope Blackwell can get sorted out even though we do seem to have more options at the back.

Rodger was overrated last season when he played,
Oatway was much more influential in midfield.

Rodger and Sidwell were the ones who made such a huge difference as soon as Coppell arrived.

That's when we started playing as a team who could do something in division 1. (well after the Selhurst debacle)

yes he did well in div 1 ,last time for us but the start of last season in div 2, i didnt think he played well at all.

But I do think he will be better than Oatway in div 1.

At the beginning of the season, matters were not helped in the fact that Coppell could not decide between Oatway and Carpenter and so his midfield partner kept changing.

I agree Mr Popkins. It was not looking promising before his injury. I hope he comes back and does a good job for us, but I am not holding my breath.

Also agree. He looked a yard off the pace BEFORE the injury and wasn't exactly setting the world on fire with his passing.

Can't imagine post-injury he'll be that keen to get tacking in central midfield either. If you were an opposing 1st Div midfielder would you be worried?

"Told the ofical club website"

I must have missed that piece of up to date information.

oh, and wasn't is a 10 month Break not a 10 day break?

Nah, only kidding, I can't wait to see him back on the pitch, he had a bit of class about him, and we will need some of that in the Championship.

The whole team looked lacklustre early last season (QPR apart), maybe Rodger was having trouble getting enthusiastic about playing kick and rush football in div 2?

He's a Brighton fan who's just had a year off and he's now back in the division where he's played most of his career, barring injury setbacks I would expect him to do well this year.

He is Brighton, not Palar$e... if he is fit, could be a big contributor to the cause this year... Jolly or Charlie... no contest... Rodger can pass for starters... a minimum requirement for The Championship IMHO...

Actually interesting point.

If you win the Championship are you The Championship Champions?

Sounds daft.

Although the answer is not likely to bother us much...:(

The official site says that rodger, balckwell and lee haven't started pre season training with the rest of the squad. I can't see any of them being even nearly ready for the beginning of the season.
