Why is the West Stand called the "West Stand" if it faces more South than the "South stand"? And why is the South Stand called the "South Stand" if it faces more East than.......... etc?

Presumably it's not the way it's facing, as the side of the ground it's on....

Dunno. Maybe the same reason that North Road and North Street in Brighton run East<-->West

and West Street and East Street run north-south...at least that's what it looks like.

But then Eatern Road and Western Road appear to have got it right. All too confusing.

Except Western Road is named after a family and not the direction it travels!

I think the North, West & East in the streets marked the boundary's of the old small town.

There was a very interesting presentation on this at the Falmer Public Inquiry by the football club's architect. He explained that every modern stadium has its main facilities on the west side of the ground - it's where the expensive seats can be provided to people who don't want the sun in their eyes. It's where hospitality can be provided, because the folk who are paying the most will also be happy to eat the prawn sandwiches. And it's where the TV studios will be located (see prawn sandwiches).

And stadium architects always call this big, flashy stand "The West Stand". I guess if they have to turn the stadium round a bit, as at Falmer, they still call it The West Stand.

Sorry a little off subject but where is the fans bar going to be? From the blueprints there doesn't seem to be any room for it in the west stand, East stand???
