Why is the West Stand called the "West Stand" if it faces more South than the "South stand"? And why is the South Stand called the "South Stand" if it faces more East than.......... etc?
But then Eatern Road and Western Road appear to have got it right. All too confusing.
Except Western Road is named after a family and not the direction it travels!
There was a very interesting presentation on this at the Falmer Public Inquiry by the football club's architect. He explained that every modern stadium has its main facilities on the west side of the ground - it's where the expensive seats can be provided to people who don't want the sun in their eyes. It's where hospitality can be provided, because the folk who are paying the most will also be happy to eat the prawn sandwiches. And it's where the TV studios will be located (see prawn sandwiches).
And stadium architects always call this big, flashy stand "The West Stand". I guess if they have to turn the stadium round a bit, as at Falmer, they still call it The West Stand.
Isn't West Ham in the East end?
... and if you want to go to London Road, you get off the train at Preston Park. But if you want to go to Preston Park, use London Road station.
...and Southampton is in the South...but Northampton is in the Midlands!
Well where the bloody hell is South Shields then??
My mum always says if you dunno ask a police person.
Yeah, but you can never bloody find one, can you?
