Shane McGowan went to Westminster school. He's Irish in the sense that his family own about half of Tiperrary.

MacGowan was born in Kent. His parents were on holiday from Tipperary visiting relatives over Xmas. He was born on Xmas Day.

Went back to Ireland and spent first 6 years of his life growing up in Tipperary on his Mother's farm.

Parents briefly moved to Brighton of all places then up to London. Yes he did go to Westminster School but it was on a scholarship. He only lasted a couple of years before being expelled.

Spent sometime in Bedlam after that before getting into the punk scene. Lead singer of the Nips before Pogue Mahone came along.

Sid Vicious - great icon, shite musician, he was a car crash waiting to happen, which is ultimately what the punk movement wanted - it's very own James Dean to hang the sell-out on. I suspect Malcolm McLaren was hardly devastated at the news of his death.

Get your "Sid" t-shirts, bondage trousers, posters, etc, etc......

The same legend that never played a note on the Bollocks album and always had his amp turned down at gigs as he couldn't play to save his life. Also became too reliant on a groupie/junkie which lessened his use even further.

He was McLaren's puppet and ended up believing all the hype and completely lost touch with whatever reality remained.

Proof that the public at large will accept anything that is put in front of them.

Strangely, although this was not a new thing by any means, even the most discerning of the public might still find him more acceptable than the Clive Dunns or Rolf Harris's that had gone before, and done it theeeirr waaayyyy
