Should we try to get Adam Virgo back?

Just a thought.

Colchester will get relegated. He's still on loan there (I presume) and unlikely to be rushed back to Celtic and put in the first team squad.

We need cover across the defence with Butters, Mayo and Hart unlikely to still be around next season.

He can also provide striker cover (as we know) which would be very useful.

Seems to me that he would be an ideal player to bring in during the summer. Surely Celtic wouldn't be looking for much in the way of a transfer fee?

And it would be good to have him back.

While Virgo was amazing for us, things have moved on since then and as much as would be great to see him in the stripes again i think it might be a case of never go back.

Do we really need him? Yes he would be good cover but the Albion aren't a club who spend decent money on wages for players to be brought in for cover.
If and when he does return it would surely be done once the Churchill sq community stadium is built!
I'm sure Dean woul love to have him back as he must of seen alot of him as a youth.

interesting as if he were to come back it would be as an out and out defender, not the rightback/centre back/midfielder/striker he was before. so it wouldnt be quite like the usuall going back if you see what i mean.

get him in time for the play off is what i say  :yahoo:

All this never go back stuff is a joke. Virgo would be our best defender at the club if he returned. Virgo and Elphick centre back would be quality, i just cant see it happening. If by some miracle we are promoted, then a loan offer could be an option and i would love to see it happen.

I think some people have rather rose tinted memories of Virgo. I'll always love him for that goal against Swindon and the goal against Ipswich that kept us up. But as a defender he was always rather error prone (his mistake led to Ipswich's goal) and flitting between CB, RB and CF is never the sign of someone who excels in one position. I'd rather have Whing at RB and Elphick and Lynch at CB.

What he said.

His best postion was at CB and a new CB is not needed.

He was a poor Striker and playing alongside either Forster or Murray would ruin them.

I don't disagree with you about those three, but injuries/suspensions are a fact of life and we have to have cover. El-Abd and Virgo in the mix would give us excellent cover for defence, midfield and sriker.

He was a very good centre back, IMO, but a mediocre striker. However, not only was he a good centre back (he'd walk into our current team) but he was also very versatile, and I think that's what makes him a fairly valuable commodity. i.e. if your team has an injury or sending off in the middle of the match, it's much easier to shuffle the formation around when one player can play any of 3 or 4 positions competently.
