Missing the point again. By all means investigate, but it is the THREE DAYS BEFORE that was an issue. The programme was largely made up of OLD NEWS.

I think you'll find it is YOU missing the point. Old news - yes partly - but allegations that had not been addressed by FIFA at all. Three days BEFORE the vote is exactly when they should have been RE-HIGHLIGHTED.

f*** the BBC. C.a.u.c.

They have to show how very clever they are by showing the programe before the result. They just could not wait. Fuckem.

To be honest, I think part of the blame should go to Andy Anson of the bid team, after he referred to the FIFA Exec committee in a press conference this week, as a 'brotherhood', which could infer that if one is crrupt then they all are. Not the best way to influence the vote our way. We have a habit of shooting ourselves in the foot.

Good luck to Qatar and Russia, as we can't change anything now.

Agreed. The Daily Mail haven't helped matters either.

Or should I be saying Sunday Times? I forget.

Anyway it's a joke that all our media do anything to tarnish the bid - they should all be supporting it - maybe they're not 'English' like I am. Or maybe they're just c.unts

Probably both.

Yes, I have heard this sour grapes theory. Who exactly would compaint of it? And even if they did, so what? "Oh, we can't broadcast after the event, people might call us names!" :lolol:

Lots of people totally missing the point on this thread. Its not about what people think of us its about the rest of the world taking these allegations seriously, which they might not have done had it been dismissed as sour grapes.

And whilst the fact that FIFA is corrupt is not news the specific revelations were new.

Once it was made known that FIFA representatives who had taken bribes in the past were still in their posts it follows that the two countries who would gain by offering incentives for votes would be Russia and Quatar.
Full marks to the BBC for showing the world we still have freedom of speech and are not prepared to accept corruption in order to take the big prize.

Its simple really, two thirds of those are corrupt tin pot nations. So it's not surprising that they are now voting for corrupt countries to host the world cup. Much be a lot easier to take bungs that way.

I think we can at least partly blame the BBC. Investigate fine, but the timing was just sensationalism. I hope they're proud of themselves.

Mind you, I think a large chunk of the media in this country are disgraceful.

I am a huge fan of the BBC but for some reason Panorama has had a hard on for English football for years. I remember them doing an expose on Venables when he was manager, then all the Redknapp stuff which as far as I know has never been proven. Thing to consider is the name of the organisation BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation. Whose to say the whole thing wasn't sponsored by a scottish executive producer? Don't think it mattered to be honest. This bid went pearshaped 9 months before Blatter was born when his dad forgot to pull out!!

Or maybe, just maybe, our media are independent enough to root out corruption without worrying about the consequences. If it was Panorama, The Times, The Sun or even the local village church newsletter that lost us the bid then GOOD. Maybe now the FA and the British Government can set about brining FIFA and cock features Blatter to task without worrying about if it will cost us a World Cup bid.

Christ, that's twice I've agreed with westdene this year! Spot on lad, FIFA are so corrupt the only good thing about 2018 & 2022 world cups is that Slap Blatter & his other criminal cronies will likely be dead by then. Still, the next bunch of Nigerians, Secret Swiss etc will no doubt replace 'em and the circus will continue. Anyone who thinks our media are to blame are clearly in need of help to correct their short sight. English values of honesty and fair play have survived. That's why everyone hates us. Because we ARE morally superior to most nationalities on this, god's earth.

Quality end sentence! But have to disagree with stuff about rednapp and venables; I mean, one was prosecuted and banned from company house register. The other has been arrested, and case is being investigated. Not exactly the two best examples you could have picked!!

Abort, retry, fail
I've nothing against a new nation hosting the World Cup and I'm (not so) secretly pleased that we will not be kow towing to the FIFA execs in 2018. Sadly (or not) the current brigand will probably not be alive by the time Russia hosts the cup, but there will be some willing crooks in waiting for their seats on the corrupt gravy train that masquerades as a 'charity'.

Good on the British press for going after them and I hope they do not stop short.

I expect them to carry on and push hard to chase the corrupt officials!

....agreed,... nail them to the wall now,...... no need to be discreet anymore,....... especially with Blatter giving them a 'lead' before they voted, banging on about the press and media....... talk about dictatorship.

I wonder what the point is in all the measures that Fifa threw about, % ratings for this and that,... we were 100% for everything,... and finish bottom...... 2 votes, and one of them was our guy.:angry::angry::angry::angry:

Money talks - chuck enough money at the Fifa members who appear to have no scruples about dodgy goings on and hey-presto it's hardly a suprise that Russia and Quatar got the ultimate prize. Whether we like it or not football is now a business and not a game.

The world will sit up and take notice if they are presented with FACTS at any time! Get over your grapes theory.
