I don't know why you earned a facepalm for that. My workplace is full of people who love football. In the past few months, there has been plenty of talk about football. Not once has anyone mentioned the women's game. 100% of the talk has been about the men's teams who the relevant parties support. Brighton, Arsenal, Man U, City, palace, Liverpool and Spurs are represented well and there's a fairly even split of those teams between the sexes. Maybe it is unrepresentative, but I agree, in spite of the huge publicity week on week, apart from the big competitions, people seem to be uninterested.

I'd say its the polar opposite in my work place don't think there ever was a discussion in the office about women's football before the Euros. Now there is often discussion about it, interesting stories in it, etc.

You have no interest, fair enough, I don't think anyone has a problem with that. I have no interest in boxing so when something comes on about boxing (and there's a LOT of boxing coverage on SSN), I turn it off, or go make a cuppa, I don't go on NSC and start a thread on whether or not they should have a separate news channel for boxing.

I could not agree more with the o/p… I am sick of clicking on an interesting headline only to find that it is about the women’s game . My wife had me look at a tv programme on SS news last week “ it is about Brighton FC” only to find it was the WSL .. it is confusing, however you feel about women’s football. I have zero interest in that.
Sports News and programming should treat it as it is- a totally different sport.

I think this is a made up scenario in your head. I've never been 'sick of' clicking on a news story, finding out its about the women's game, and then not reading it. If you don't want to read/listen you can just not do it. I certainly not entitled enough to demand that a News source cater to my taste.

I do get frustrated when an Albion announcement pops up on the banner at the bottom of the Sky Sports screen and I have to double-take because it's about a Women's team issue but that's about it. Oh, and the use of Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, Sue Smith and the dreadful Leanne Sanderson as pundits that add nothing but noise. But it won't be for much longer. Once this terrific season for us is finished Sky is getting dumped. Everything for us will be on a Firestick

It's not wrong to have no interest in women's football obviously.

The OP is instead arguing that because he has no interest in women's football, therefore others don't and it doesn't deserve a place on a sports news channel. Which is a bit like saying that because I'm from the south and have no interest in the north, why should the BBC ever report on that part of England?

The OP doesn't need to like women's football, but he also doesn't need to come on NSC to say that it should be taken out of his (and everyone else's) eyesight because of that reason. A normal person would probably just not watch.

Not entirely sure what his (woman) wife has to do with any of this, unless she is part of the professional women's game and he's left that detail out.

I agree. Two seperate channels on SSN and two seperate websites on the BBC and I don't want to see female pundits on the men's coverage either. Probably annoy plenty of the liberals on here, but that's not exactly difficult.

Whilst the way the OP worded it comes across all neanderthal, I do kind of get what he means, as it does feeel like some of the news channels are falsely forcing things on people, you know when it’s like ‘Brighton sign striker’ then you open the email and it says Brighton women.

But then again, it’s not called sky sports mens news, they are hoping that regular SSN viewers will gain some intrigue in womens sports, which there’s no harm in really.

Womens sports are decades behind mens interest wise that’s just the reality of it, who knows where they will be in 20 years time.

Is it only me but can we not, in 2023, watch whatever we want, whenever we want, in whatever format we want, however often we want (or, wait for it; none of the above &, perhaps, go for a walk in the park)? I'm not suggesting that that's an incontestable positive on how life was in the 70s, but there are some, obvious, benefits; like if you want to avoid some of the nasty stuff of this world; the war in Ukraine, the financial state of the UK & cost of living crisis, the crumbling of once dependable social & cultural infrastructure in this country &, er, ladies kicking a football around competitively.

Probably fair to say that it's somewhat of a mixed bag at best currently.

It was a very impressive turnout at Lewes on Sunday with just under 1,000 more than the next highest attendance at Reading.

As I posted on the 'Other FA Cup' thread, overall the average FA Cup QF attendance numbers increased by 266 from last year.

But that thousand extra people at Lewes spread over the 4 games pretty much led to the whole average increase.

So the combined figure in the other 3 games, which included a meagre 541 at Birmingham v BHA, hadn't really changed.

That's after a home Euros win less than 8 months ago.

Lest some think it's purely the Cup, there were only 305 at the WSL Tottenham v Leicester match last Wednesday.

A week earlier, there were 916 watching top of the table Chelsea v BHA.

The large one-off attendances for specific derby games played in the main stadium are massively distorting average attendances.

Scratch the surface of a growth with media hype and terrestrial TV coverage narrative and one will find the tough turnstile truth.

People can choose to ignore it or blame it on years of lack of equity, but the attendance elephant's still very much in the room.

Not an ‘elephant’ for me, I go because I enjoy watching it, as I do Burgess Hill Town (av attendance maybe 350). I’ll check but Lewes Women’s average attendance (pre the Man U game) is I think significantly up on last season.

I only said we should have male and female sky sports news as the women’s sports don’t interest me. Should be pretty easy to do I say. And you can take the female football pundits who are only there due to positive discrimination. I can’t take them seriously (even if they are wearing the media style glasses to appear knowledgable).
