Our most successful manager, in recent years, in this cup was Hyypia. He got us to the 4th round.

France are scrapping theirs

The French football league says it's ending the League Cup competition after this season's edition.

The decision comes as the European Club Association pushes for cuts in national fixture schedules to create more space for an expanded Champions League in 2024.

The French league cites commercial reasons and says the Coupe de la Ligue could be relaunched in future years.
Ending the second-tier cup also reduces fixtures, gives players more rest, and creates an extra Europa League qualifying spot to reward a high-ranking finish in Ligue 1, the league says.

Would this thread have been started if you beat Villa ?
Imho, it’s a good competition for giving the squad valuable game time, and it creates plenty of shocks.

Maybe make invitations for 32 positions and select sides from all levels that want in the competition and leave out the sides that don't want to be arsed.

The only shock on Wed was Albion selecting schoolboys.

It was a chance to get goals! A bloody win!

Oh well, maybe next month...

I do love the fact you are only paying around a tenner for these matches. With that- keep it.

So you clearly don't watch the games that often...

Might as well call it the B-team cup because most teams in the top 2 divisions are either too worried about staying at the top or too worried about going down to give a f**k about this waste of space tournament.

1 league competition. 1 cup competition. 1 international competition.

Anything else is just a money-grubbing embarrassment these days.

Anything else is just a waste. If you are in a

Imagine being at Everton/Watford?

I bet that games an absolute shiteshow, there's no way either team wants to be there.

Sky couldn't even be bothered to show a live game tonight, competition is dead.

As a small club, the League Cup and its "big day outs" used to be important to us.

Let's not forget about the 52 clubs outside the Premier League, nor where we came from.

Agree, we weren't wanting it axed in 2008 when Citeh came to the Withdean

Its still a major trophy, something we've never won in 118 years

Definitely, always has been. Wembley’s a sell out for the final, with huge crowds in the rounds before that for clubs that have a true interest in winning it.

Potter took a different path, I can understand why with PL survival everything to the club. I just feel sorry for the fans who went on the night, when they saw the team sheets for Villa. It handed Villa the tie (many of us on NSC filled our boots with various bets, once we saw the team news .... printing money).

An idea. Keep the comp, it should be good, and another giant killng money generating opportunity for the smaller clubs.

However, eliminate the top 6 or 7 from the PL who have qualified for europe that season. Gives everyone else a better chance and saves the big boys the hassle they clearly don't want.

It’s a good idea but gives TV companies even less motivation for televising it.
